Fleming passed Black on the first lap and immediately went 10 work on Williamson. The Yamaha pilot held him off, and at mid-moto the three were all bunched together. On the founh lap Fleming used his line in the first set of whoops 10 take the lead, and this time Williamson didn't put up as much of a fight. Black was close in third, but dropped out on the same lap. Williamson stayed close to Fleming, but not close enough to get by as Fleming took the win and the overalL Results PEE WEE: 1. Word did come back to smoke the Open A event on a Honda CR480 motocrosser, finally getting the win he savored badly. Dale Rund and Don Peterson fought for runnerup and Rund took second brass at the checkers. Word put a borrowed Honda into the lead at the stan of the Pro money main event with Harsha (Hon 250). Robbie Blagg (Yam 125) and Bob Ingel (Hon 480) in an opening-lap parade dueling for positions on a track that staned out shon track but was shaping up to a near motocross race as the berms were building up thanks to the high rate of MX rnachineryon the course. It soon became a brutal swapfest for the lead and top money between Harsha. who was ramming from the real and Word, who led from lap one but once again had the hand offate strike a blow. Harsha rode the outside and Word made a valiant pass bu t got the lesser of the luck, going down as welI as making a hand signal jesture jokingly at Harsha, who wheelied away with the money. Blagg used the chaos to push his pumped 125 into second money ahead of Ingel and Word, who hopped back in the saddle in time to nab founh. Results OPEN PRO MONEY: ,. Jeff Hershe; 2. Robbie Blagg; 3. Harsha double trouble at MedfordST By Clay Ught MEDFORD, OR, OCT. 13 AMA Expert Jeff Harsha is out to dispell the theory that flat Lrack machinery rules during short track racing at Medford's 32 Beef Barn arena in the masive Jackson County Expo Park. Harsha "motoed" to two main event wins on his CR250 Honda mOlocrosser. Promoter Rich Word lets one run knobbies and Harsha obliged, topping the 250cc and Pro money main events. Medford MX/TT plays Word games By Clay Ught MEDFORD, OR, OCT. 12 AMA Novice Robbie Blagg rode a YZl25 Yamaha to an uncontested 200cc A main event at Medford's Expo motocross/TT combination course, which favors nat track riders on motocross machinery. ational number85 Frand Word III was out to prove otherwise, riding the wheels off his 250 Yamaha 10 lOp the Pro money final. Blagg put his Specialty Cycles/ Simp onlR V Doctor YZ into the lead immediately at the stan of the 200cc A final. Blagg literally blew the competition into the weeds with locals Rick Beck and Tony Spangle crap-ping it out for second. The 2S0cc final wa much more interesting, not the one man show as in the case of the 200c final. AMA Expert Jeffrey Harsha (Yam Sports Center/Simpson) put a CR250 into the lead with a roosty holeshot while Word (Yam Sports Center/Adams Cycle Supply/Simpson/Yam) and Steve Croucher gave chase. Harsha's CR oaked up the jumps and the rougher sections while Word rode the smoother lines and almost caught Harsha in the TT section. Harsha got the win while Croucher got around Word for second during a late race mishap. Undoubtedly the highlight of the evening was the Pro money final on a variety of machinery ranging from motocrossers 10 flat trackers of 125 to 600cc displacements. Harsha nailed the holeshot and led the 1O-rider final around the course with Word and Blagg in tow. Harsha's lead lasted until the 20th lap wben the local speedster clipped a bay hale and went down which gave Word a last-lap, first-place cash payoff. Blagg rode uperbly, outrunning the big bores with his 125 while Dave Nordin (Hon 500) took the show spot ahead of Harsha, who remounted for founh after his spectacular ride. Results PRO MONEY: ,. DeAnza MX sees Harcrow go By Mike Gillies SUNNYMEAD, CA, OCT. 7 John Burr Cycles' Bruce Harcrow (Hon) put together a 1-2 score at DeAnza Cycle Park to clinch the overall in the lO-man, one-woman 250cc Intermediate class. Yes, Sue Fisb (Yam) former National Women's Motocross Champion, visited DeAnza today and put on a charge that took ber from mid-pack to third place in the first moto. Harcrow sbot to an early lead in round one with Pete Vetrano (Hon) and Pomona Valley Kawasaki's Terry Szucsko trailing. Suzuki-mounted Ruben Alvarado was fourth and being cbased by Luther French (Suz) and Fisb. Szucsko, new to the 250cc class, looked comfortable with tbe larger machine and wasted no time in passing Vetrano and reel ing in Harcrow. Soon the leaders were battling in every turn until, on the fifth lap, Szucsko blasted into the lead. Unfortunately, before the lap was over Szucsko took a soil sample and the lead again belonged to Harcrow. Alvarado moved up to challenge Harcrow late in tbe molO, but ran out of steam and was forced 10 settle for second. Fish put French and Vetrano in their places and went on to finish a strong third. Mike Carlo (Hon) finished fourth in front of Vetrano, Jon Hall, and Szucsko. Harcrow roosted to another holeshot in molO two followed by Alvarado, Vetrano, and Szucsko. Fish was caught in traffic and looked as if she might have had some suspen ion problems, judging by her omewhatless-aggressive pace. Harcrow pulled a five-second lead in the first three laps, while Szucsko was putting the pressure on Alvarado. Szucsko lipped by on the sixth lap and started his mad dash for Harcrow. Riding with the utmost precision, Szucsko turned identical lap times with today's top 250cc Pros, and in doing so reeled Harcrow in and passed him with only three laps remaining. Alvarado finished a strong third over Reynard Rice (Hon), French, and Carlo. Harcrow's 1-2 tally earned him first over Alvarado's 2-3, while Szucsko's gallant 7-1 effort salvaged third ahead of Carlo's 4-6. Results PEE WEE DIV 1: 1. Scan Tinkhem (ylm); 2. Nethon Fowler (Yem). Harsha, Howard hot at Medford ST By Clay Light MEDFORD, OR, OCT. 8 Rookie Expert Jeff Harsha hauled away top bucks at the Medford Arena short track. Harsha lopped the Pro money main while Bret Howard took the Open A main and National number 85 Frank Word III did the deeds in the 250cc A main. The program started off with the 125s up first. Rick Beck (Suz) blazed into the lead and held off Yamaha mounted Wayne Frampton for first brass. . The 250cc A main had Word (Adams Cycle/Simpson/Yam Sports Center) leading Harsha (Hon) and Kevin Gutzan (Oss). Harsha and Word traded paint throughout with Word's flat tracker keeping ground on Harsha's CR MXer for the win. Gutzan rode ahead of a large field to capture third. Howard (Specialty Cycles Hon) put his 500 into the lead and headed up a full field around what was becoming a rough "motocross." AMA Novice sensation Robbie Blagg (Specialty Cycles Suz) rode in second on another MX-based bike, which was the ticket on what was supposed to be a nat track. Howard, Blagg and motocrosser Dave Nordin (Hon) built up a berm in their clash for first with Howard winning for the second race in a row in Medford. Blagg finished second and Nordin was third. Howard's luck soured in the Pro Money main event and nursed his machine in mid-pack and warched as Harsha (Yam Spons Center) led the field around the "long" shon track. Word hased the rookie for the entire race but it was Harsha soaking up the track with his 12 inches of travel. Word, Blagg, Nordin and Howard
