But tonight things went his way and he went home with the overall vicLOry in the l25ce Beginner division one class. Prince (JDD Racing/Yam) started his night off with a first-mOlO holeshOl but Rob Knemeyer (Suz) and Hondamounted je££ Run were right there with him. Run bauled by Knemeyer on the first lap, then took the lead from Prince on the second go-'round. By mid-moLO Run had opened up a comfortable lead, while Prince still fell some pressure from Knemeyer. Kawasaki-mounted Rick Weaver was closing fast from fourth, and went by Knemeyer on the fifth lap to take over third. Run motored on for an easy win, while Prince had LO contend with the pressure applied by Weaver and Knemeyer. Prince held on for secondjustahead of the Kawa- at the Dunes but when there are five Sundays in a momh, the riders get another shot. Mini Expert riders Chris Young and Erick Hilton rode both motos in both the Stock and Modified classes and set a blistering pace that left all other Mini riders in the purple haze, dearing a double jump as one and doing some fancy styling in the process. They were seldom more than inches apart but usually those inches were in Young's favor and he took three moLOS and a second LO win both classes. Hilton hung in for a very close second. Marino Bastion got great starts in both mOlOS of the Veterans class and came away the big winner. He led easily for several laps in moLO one but jim Smith put on a burst that gave him the lead a couple of times at midrace. Seemed like every time they went into the sandwash at the bonom of the Shadow Glen course, the lead would change. Bastion gained final comrol on lap six and stayed in the lead for the moLO win. MaLO two was all Bastion's show. He took an immediate lead and went right LO the checkered. Smith rode consistently LO take second. In the combined, 125cc Beginner and Novice race, johnny Calia fought his way up from a mid-pack start LO take the win after swapping the lead back and forth with Andrew Olivia. Olivia DNF the first maLO but passed Calia in the last lap of the second moLO to win that one. Calia wem down briefly right after that and finished sixth LO net third for the day. Doug Allen was the big winner as two strong seconds dropped the winner' laurels on his head. Similarly, two thirds got second for Gary Carivaa. 0 confusion in the Beginner ranks. Mike Steinhoff was first in the first tum in both moLOS and stayed there for the wins and the overall The 250cc and Open Beginners and Novices all rode at one time! The overall winners, riders in the 250cc Novice, were easy LO track. Charles Abbitt got the holes hot in moLO one, but lost the lead to Rob Carpenter at mid-race. Randy Chealwood worked his way to third by the finish. In maLO two, Carpenter took the lead instantly and wouldn't relinquish it. This time. Abbin and Cheatwood comes ted second with Cheatwood taking that spot at the end for second overall. Abbit wound up with a 2-3 LO get th ird overa II. Results . PEE WEE: 1. Robby Hammond (YamI; 2. Burdette bounces but wins at DeAnzaMX By Mike Gillies SU NYMEAD, CA, SEPT. 30 Pomona Valley Kawasaki's Mike Burdette had a tough day in the l25ccIntermediatecIass: He won his first moto, and led most of the second, but a crash dropped him LO fourth place where he remained through the. checkers. However, Burdene's competition had the same kind of luck he did and his 1-4 combo was enough LO earn him the overall win. Hounda-mounted David Church shot into the lead of the first molO ahead of Tad Cates (Yam), Burdette and Chris Rogers (Kaw). Burdette quickly put the move on Cates and was pressuring Church by the end of lap one. Cates and Rogers both trouble on the se
