grounds. Scores of spectators, including Honda teamster Ricky Graham, who was home between races, watched as Chad Felicio took top honors in the 500cc Expert class. After a third-place finish in the qualifying heat, Felicia, sponsored by RBR Services, and on board his Wood-ROlaX outrode the tight competition with his smooth and fast style. The first four laps of the main event was a tight ballle between the three front runners. Felicia, Can-Am pilot Bruce Johnson and Honda-mounted Paul Iwanaga. On the fifth lap Iwanaga's bike stalled and he was out of the race. Felicia and Johnson ballled on, with Felicio crossing the finish with a half-bike lead. Frank Garcia Jr.'s Kawasaki took third. In the 250cc Expert class, Yamaha pilot Rob Damron and Garcia put their bikes through the paces in two hotl y contested races. Garcia took the qualifying heat with a start-to-finish win over second-place finisher Damron. In the main event, Garcia took the lead early with Damron in hot pursuit. But the one that counted was the one that got away, when Garcia, pushing his Kawasaki hard, slid just wide enough in a turn to leave a hole for Damron to slip through. Once out front, Damron skillfully blocked Garcia's pass attempts all the way to the checkered flag for the win. Lee Yetter's Honda finished third. Results PEE WEE: 1. D.C. Doty (Vam); 2. Saavedra blasts backwards Baylands bash By Mike Vancil FREMO 'T. CA. SEPT. 26 The 22nd week of Continental Motorsports Cl ub-sanctioned motocross at Baylands wa a surprise for the racers and fans. with the start area slightly altered so that the races went clockwise instead of the normal counter-clockwise. First class to battle the track was the 125cc Novice class and it was immediately apparent that Carlos Saavedra and his Kawasaki had the right combination, grabbing the lead in both motos and riding uncontested to the checkers. Those following had their problems. Mitchell Cook on his Yamaha really had to scramble with a 3-2 performance to garner second overall. Ted Harry contin ued his la te-season winning ways by winning the 250cc Pro class but he had to work quite hard to accomplish it. In moto one Harry could not mount more than a late-race challenge to leader. John Dauth. But what a challen~e it was; Dauth finished with a few tire marks on his boots and number plates. In moto two Sam Nava was the early leader on his Honda. Nava's wrist injury recovery isn't complete, however, and he faded to third. First rider by was the persistent Harry and then Dauth. Harry thereby took the . overall with Dauth runner-up overall. Results 80 NOV: I. Shawn Robertson (Suz). 80 JR: 1. Richard Graham.(Vam). 125 NOV; I. Carlos Saavedra (Kaw); 2. Team Husky's Dan Ashcraft was only seconds behind Paiement on the second loop until he found a rock and a hard place. The resul ting crash left him witn a flat front tire and he dropped to sixth overall. Ashcraft's Husky teammate. Dan Smith, started way back in 136th but soldiered his way through the dust to evenlUaUy finish second. just 61 seconds behind Paiement.
