Moto two was a vinual instam replay, with Rutherford out from and Fedorow second. But a couple laps later, disaster struck the Kawasaki rider as he went down in a corner, gelling nailed by the pack in the process. Heinrich was gracious enough to accept second, which was good for second overall. Mike ishita (Hon) grabbed third, and combined with his first-moto fifth, got third in class. Kirk captain of Oklahoma MX C'ship By Tim Tolleson OKLAHOMA CITY, OK, SEPT. 23 Round four of the Oklahoma State Championship Fairground Series was a day of upsets for the Experts and 125cc ovices. Rick Kirk survived a second-molO melee and took home the big money in Expen action. Consistency paid 0[£ for Chris Quamoos in the 125s; his 1-3 earned lOp Novice honors. Chan Baker powered his CR500 lO the first-molO holeshot over SCOll Cook, Clay Hoenshell, Kirk and Greg Brown. Hoenshell held the inside line and slipped past Cook going inlO the twin-doubles section. Baker and Hoenshell were locked in battle for the first two laps. Hoenshell was applying heavy pressure, but Baker countered every thrust. Cook's bike began losing power, and Kirk, Alvin Myers and Brown capitalized on Cook' misfonune. Halfway imo lap three Hoenshell snatched the lead from Baker over a jump/left-turn combo. Baker attempted to return the favor, but Hoenshell oon built a cushion. Kirk and Myers fini hed third and founh re pectively. Myers grabbed the holeshot in molO two over Hoenshell, Baker, Cook and Kirk. Hoen hell again favored the inside line, but his RM500 wem sideways over the first jump. He and Myers coil ided a nd went down ha rd, taking Baker and Cook with them. Kirk inherited the lead over Brown and Jim Thomas. Cook was back in action quickly, but Baker's and Myers' day had ended. Hoenshell's headpipe was smashed, but he remounted in lIth. Kirk was enjoying a comfonable led while Thomas applied heavy pressure lo M- tar-mounted Brown. On the third lap Brown overshot a berm and allowed Thomas to take over second. The top three places were set, but Hoenshell was on the move. He worked up , ,sevemh by .the checkto . ered and emered a three-way tie for second overall. Thomas got second, Brown took third and Hoenshell ended up founh. As the 125cc Novices got 0[£ the line, Brell Shumate, Chris Quamoos, Chris Barth and JeH McCauley gated well. Quamoos took the hole hot as Shumate dropped his KTM in the first turn and remounted in last. In the second turn Barth went down and tailed. Quamoos and Mike Maheny kept their Kawa akis ahead of Honda mounted J.D. BotLS, while humate worked hi way through the pack. At the checkered it was Quamoos, Math ny and BOllS, with Shumate fini hing lOth. Shumate was out for revenge in tl1e second moto. He grabbed the holeshot over Botts, Quamoos and Barth. Shumate pulled away from the pack steadily. BOllS held onto second, for second overall and Quamoos' third was good for the overall. Barth finished fourth, but his first-moto fall dropped him lo sevemh overall. Matheny's 2-5 finishes earned him third overall, while Shumate's 10-1 was good for fifth overall. The Mini were the first class run, and Dustin Evans gOt off the line in fir t and stayed there without challenge right lo the overall win. The Intermediates ran with the Pro in the next event as CRC had to lear the tra k by 2:30 p.m. for an auto race. Brad McLeod holeshot the Pro start on his 250 Honda and looked like he was going to have a hot day. He led ea ily for me first lap, but Beier was off the line in econd and clo ing. On lap two, Beier pa ed and started opening up a big lead, as much as 60 second by lap four.
