Stroh Light, Erlanger and Signature beer. will become a major sponsor of Camel Pro Series mile races. Stroh has posted a rider point fund of 810.000 for the Springfield Mile, the concluding round of the '84 Camel Pro Series. The winner at Springfield will pocket 85.000, with 83.000 going to the runnerup, and 82.000 to the third-place finisher. In 1985. Stroh will award the Stroh Cup plus a 850.000 point fund with 820,000 of that going to the Camel Pro Series mile race champion. The October 13 Springfield Mile plus six mile Nationals in 1985 will be taped for future network telecast by the Peter Starr Production Co. of Los Angeles. Cagiva will show its 1985 models LO the press on October 10, according to a company spokesman. The motocross line includes a repli-racer WMXI25 based on Corrado Madii's GP bike, and the long-awaited water-cooled WMX500 with a five-speed transmission. Some dual-purpose and trials bikes marketed in 1983-84 will bediscontinued. New LO the Cagiva line will be the Elefant, a 750cc V-twin dual-purpose machine, and in development for later introduction is a 500cc DOHC four-stroke single dirt bike. Three new street machines will be shown LO the press; their model designation and displacements unknown at this time. California Governor George Deukmejian vetoed Assembly Bill 2489, which would have established a self-funding motocycle safety and education program in the state. on September 29. In vetoing the bill, Deukmejian said. "The need for and the potential effectiveness of this bill is questionable. Motorcycle safety is but one aspect of overall highway safety." The cable TV networK reaches 26.3 million homes across the country; Huffman's show is slolled for a 13week series initially and was accepted by the network due LO the show's high ratings when shown last summer on Los An/!;eles' KNBC. In anticipation of the Motorcycle World cable deal. Huffman had a four-camera crew at Willow Springs Raceway shooting the Kerker four-four and the Budweiser I Kerker Superbike 100 on September 15 and 16. There's no word about the extent of Kinigadner's injury. • When motorcycle salesman Mike Harlow asked his Chicago-area Suzuki district sales manager about the GSX750R report we published (Cyde News September 12) he was told that we were just "fishing," the implication being that the bike didn't exist.
