Sponsored by the Trail Riders of Houston, 404 riders turned out for this Texas State Championship Enduro Circuit event which is held every year in the Sam Houston ational Forest in ew Waverly. "I thought it wa ajam up event," Burkhart aid. "I didn't have any trouble on the trail to speak of except for getti ng 10 l." Burkhart, who was riding on minute one, was referring to the early riders being thrown off the cour e due to markings that had been altered by non-event people. As a result, Lhe second check was thrown out bringing the total number checkpoints down to 13 through the 136.5-mile course. Veteran rider Ed Allen dropped 38 points to win the 125cc A class. "It was a challenge just to finish," he said. "It was an excellent ride," said Mike Spelling, who dropped 44 points to win overall in the B class. Caney Creek was his first Texas enduro. The Houston resident moved here from Georgia and took the win'on a -1984 KDX200.
