Aaron Lewis (L17) eventually won. 0 grabbed the holeshot at the start of the 125cc Intermediate division one class but was closely pursued by Hicks, on a Yamaha and SHaun Kalos, on a Honda. Matiasevich held on to his lead for a lap-and-a-half before being passed by Hicks, but the Yamaha pilot couldn't pull away. Hicks felt Matiasevich's pressure in every turn for the next three laps, before Matiasevich dropped his Kawasaki in a sharp right turn giving Hicks plenty of breathing room. By the time the checkered flag appeared, Hicks had a comfortable lead over Matiasevich, who also had a' safe cushion over Kalos. Earlier in the moto, Kalos crashed in a turn putting him out of contention with the leaders. Honda rider Gene Baldwin finished fourth ahead of another Honda rider Robert Naughton Jr. Again, Matiasevich jumped out to an early lead at the start of moto two; however, Hicks was glued to his rear fender. Kalos, Baldwin and Yamahamourited John Humphrey followed. Like the previous I)1oto, Hicks shot by Matiasevich during the second lap, but Matiasfvich stayed close. During the third go around, Kalos got out of shape and went of( the track dropping back to seventh, but he didn't stay there for long. Three laps later, Kalos worked his way into fourth. At times, Hicks and Matiasevich we.re handlebar to' handlebar, but Hicks managed to hold on and slightly pull away by the checkers. Five seconds behind followed Matiasevich then Naughton, Kalos and Baldwin. Division two featured a duel for the lead between 1984 Ponca City NMA MinicycleGrand N.ational Champion Bobby Moore, on a Kawasaki and William Surratt, on a Honda. In the first moto, Surratt stole the holeshot ahead of Kawasaki-mounted Frankie Brundage and Moore. By the end of the first lap, Moore had second and was close enough to read "No Moore" on the back of Surratt's leathers. A few turns later, Moore slipped by .Surratt for the lead, but Surratt stayed tough. Moore held on to the lead for the next two laps, before surrendering the top spot back to Surratt. Five seconds behind followed Brundage. With only a few laps left in the race the duel was fierce, but Surratt managed to hold on for the win. Third went to Brundage followed by Cory Falter and Terry Bostard. The start of the second moto saw the lead swap hands a few times between Surratt and Kawasaki rider Alan Pierce; by the end of the first Eddie Hicks, Bobby Moore, Lance Rieman, William Surratt and Scott lap, though, Surratt had control. Piauoni looked very strong for the first half of the moto, but Rieman began making his way up through the pack. During the second lap, Marnoch crashed hard over a double jump putting him out of contention. On the same lap, Rieman passed Perolio and set after Piatttoni; then Carlson did a spectacular loopout when jumping a tricky double jump section. He almost saved it but it cost him about five positions. Piauoni 's large lead was dwindling as Rieman picked up his pace. At the halfway point, Rieman slipped past Piattoni for the lead and eventual win. Piattoni finished second ahead of Perolio, Pat Sparks (Hon) and Scott Burnes (Hon). Sparks, Carlson and Marnoch were the early leader at the start of the second moto. Rieman and Piattoni were fourth and fifth. Rieman was the fastest of the bunch, as he started to make his way through the pack and into the lead by the halfway point. Piattoni followed in Rieman's footsteps until the Honda rider crashed hard after landing a tad short over a fast double jump, causing him to endo. He injured his arm and couldn't re-enter the race. Rieman went on to take the win and overall. In the moto, Sparks finished aecond followed by Perolio, Carlson and Mamoch. "Wild" William Surratt completely dominated division two. H~ easily topped both motos, and the only rider to keep Surratt within his sights was Honda-mounted Tim Whitlock - he finished second both times out. Juan Posca (Yam) combined a 4-3 score to capture third overall besting Greg Flanagan's 3-5 tally. Brady Helm (Suz) finished fifth with a 5-4 combo. The 500cc Intermediate win went to Honda-mounted Scott Yemer, who also placed sixth overall in the 250cc division one class. In the first moto, Honda rider Eric Marnoch led most of the moto to capture the win, while Yenzer had to make up for a fair start to finish second. Third went to Honda pilot Gary Wilson, while fourth and fifth went to Brad Bryan (Hon) and Robert Tippit (Kaw).
