Yamaha-mounted Rick Hocking
nabbed his first AMA Grand National
win when he took the Golden Gate
Mile at Albany, California. Hocking
led from before the halfway point all
the way to the finish on the rough
track, besting Harley-Davidson's Rex
Beauchamp and Yamaha's Kenny Roberts. Scott Brelsford made history by
becoming the first rider to qualify a
two-stroke for a National mile, a feat
he performed with a Kawasaki triple
prepared by Erv Kanemoto.
