The Framptonl Cowan battle later Eizzled and Frampton took the win. Campbell (Pro-Tech/Hi-Pointl Out Front/Simpson Yam) launched his TT500 into the lead at the flash of the green light signaling the start of the 500cc A main event, which was a crowd pleaser. Campbell clobbered the race from the very start LO pad his points lead going into the championship race in three weeks. Bob Klum (Hon) and Robert Jokella (Yam) chased but didn't challenge Campbell, who continued his win streak. KLum held 0(( Jokella for second in a close finish at the flag. The 500cc Pro main event was much more interesting; Campbell was faced with some hea.vy competition in thefinal and wouldn't get the easy victory he has enjoyed in races past. Rich Word (Grants Pass Suz) put a DR370 into second at the stan and pushed Campbell for a few laps until Word dropped 0(( the pace due to a year's retirement from racing. However, Word was doing a magnificent job of holding off Klum, Reynard and Jokella. Reynard lost out on third-place money when he was nabbed by Klum late in the race. Reynard put a spectacular pass on Campbell in the hea.t race to take the pole .for the mam. Campbell dropped out of the 250cc main after unknown difficullies and Reynard's stiffest competition was local rider Wayne FrampLOn aboard a 125 and third-place Tom Bu hman. Rincon Kawasaki's Dustin Evans led the start of the first moto, but Robbie Perez (SinisaJo/Kaw) swooped around the outside of turn one to steal the lead away as Intermediate Kevin Bussey (Best Ever Termitel Hon) and PJI's Jacob Swain (Suz) chased from behind. Evans got revenge near the end of the lap and took the lead back from Perez, then quickly established some breathing room. Charlie Brown (KitSheltermaniKaw) got by Bussey on lap one, then put the pressure on Perez on the next lap. Perez started dropping back when Brown got by, and at the start of lap three, Bussey flew by him and into second. Brown nearly slid out a couple of turns later. allowing Allan Brehm (Pomona Valley Kawasakil Rob's ATV) and Collier LO close in. Collier went by both on the same lap, and was suddenly in second when Bussey fell. Evans went on LO take the win with Collier second, but a last lap bobble by Brown before an uphill allowed Bussey to go by. Hondamounted Woody MOlle, who had been chasing Bussey for the last two laps, made a charge at Brown in the final turn, but Brown held on LO be the third Novice LO finish. The start of the second moLO once again found Perez leading the Novices, as Brown, Collier and Evans trailed. After a lot of shuffling on the fiTSt lap, Brown held about five bikelengths over Evans, with Collierc1ose behind. Perez, in fourth, was being challenged by Bussey, who had Brehm on his tail. Collier got by Evans on the second lap. and outpowered Brown going into turn one on the third go-'round to take the lead. Evans also got by Brown as they passed a lapper, but Collier was already out of striking distance. Bussey ended up passing Evans on the final lap, while a bailie for fourth rage9 between Joel Albrecht (PVK) and Brehm. Albrecht fought off Brehm's advances to finish fourth and capture third overall behind Evans. Brehm was disqualified in both moLOS for pit riding. Results PEE weE 9-: 1. Jason Lentz (Hon). Raub rubs oufCMC 8aylands MX foes By Mike Vancil FREMONT, CA, SEPT. 5 Greg Raub and Kevin Green traded elbows, paint and mostly the lead in the Open Pro class of lhis Continental MOlosports Club-sanctioned night motocross at Baylands Raceway. In the end it was Raub on top. The first moto of the class had LO be red-flagged and restarted after two riders crashed 0(( the start. One made the restart, only to crash again and drop out of the race. Raub, riding a Yamaha sponsored by RSD Racing, Jim Turner Training and Sierra Distributing, got the holeshot but soon surrendered the lead to Green's Malcolm Smith Products/Walnut Creek Honda-backed CR. Raub and Green were soon charging back and forth, in and out of the lead, trading as much as three t;mes in 50 yards. Neither could pull away from thirdplace Alan Brunk on his YZ, but neither could he get close enough LO pass. The moLO finished Raub, Green and Brunk. MOLO two was again a seesaw battle, with more pas ing than in the first round. Brunk again stayed close, but could not advance. Then, with only a half a lap remaining, a wellmeaning but poorly executed pit signal to Raub nearly resulted in a Tbone crash between Green and the signalman. So it was that Raub coasted home the winner. Kawasaki rider Tony Richards holes hot and then went on LO capture the first 250cc Pro moto over Honda pilots John Dauth and Phil Douglas. In the second moLO, the ill luck that has plagued Richards struck again as he crashed and could only work up LO third before the race ended. Da u th took the moto ahead of
