Edge ANCHORAGE, AK., JULY 29 Jeff Roskelley, after a long period of crashes and mechanical failures, held it together to win both the Pro and 500cc Expert classes in an Alaska MOLOreycle Racing Association motocross. Roskelley easily 'won both moLOS of the 500cc Expert class on his Kawasaki Cycle Cache KX but had LO work for his two Pro moLO wins. Roskelley holeshot the first Pro moLO with Suzuki Motorcycle and Marine's Jim Stewart right behind. Back in the pack current Pro point leader Kelly Butler and Joe Good were in a heavy dice. Good was about LO try a pas but Butler went down and Good hit the downed bike, sending his bike bouncing down the track. Before it SLOpped the bike bounced on both Good and Butler, putting Butler out with a leg injury. Good was able LO finish the moLO but only at half steam. Meanwhile Stewart took the lead after a minor Roskelley crash. Roskelley was soon on Stewart's tail trying LO regain first. The two went at it for half the moto before Roskelley went by. Stewart started LO tire and by the moLO'S end was passed by Kevin Schaub (Hon), who spent the entire time working his way up from a poor start. At the finish line it was Roske!ley, Schaub and Stewart. Good limped in at seventh. Moto two found Stewart out front with Roskelley and Good in hot pursuit. But on the second lap Stewart crashed, putting him out of contention. The race of the day was between Roskelley and Good who both gave it their all for the number-one slot. Roskelley was able to hold Good off at the checkered for first place, though. Results 80 NOV: , . Scott Stafford (Kow); 2. Chris St_rd (Yam); 3. Andy Amarok (Kaw). 80 EX: ,. Bruce Williams (Kow); 2. Whitmore out-wits DeAnza Intermediates By Mike Gillies N YMEAD, CA, AUG. 26 DeAnza Intermediates today enjoyed their own motos by not having to share their outings with the Pro classes, because increased entries in both Pro and Intermediate classes necessitated two separate events. A+L Suzuki's Chuck Whitmore took the first-place trophy away from the 125cc Intermediates with his hard-earned 2-2 score, beating second-moLO winner Gilbert Valdez (Suz) who went 4-1 today. Pomona Valley Kawasaki's Terry Szucsko took the holeshot in the first moto with his P.V.K. teammate Mike Burdette, and Valdez dicing for second. Whitmore was fourth off the line, but Kawasaki-mounted Jeff Matiasevich soon cruised by and succeeded in doing the same thing to the rest of the pack by lap three. Szucsko did a ~ood jobof holding on to Matiasevich through the sixth lap ~fore he crashed. Whitmore devoted five laps of hard work to pass Burdette and Valdez which paid off towards the end; he gained a small but comfortable lead to carry him through the checkers behind Matiasevich, who rode flawlessly and wa more than 30 econds ahead. Burdette held on LO third in front of Valdez, while Suzuki-mounted Craig Davis was fifth over a stunned Szucsko. Burdette lead the pack through the first turn in moto two, but Valdez wasted no time in passing Burdette setting a faster pace. Matiasevich was fourth off th~ line but was knocking on first place's door by the end of the third lap. Valdez held off Matiasevich's charges until lap six when a slight slip in concentration sent Matiasevich to the lead. Unfortunately for Matiasevich, it didn't cost him the race when he crashed out of contention. Whitmore spent the first half of the race trying to get around Szucsko and the second half catching up to Burdette who he then passed on the last lap to clinch an overall winning 2-2 score. Valdez's 4-1 was second, while Burdette's 3-3 earned him third over Szucsko's 6-4. • Results PEE weE: 1. Robby Hammond (yam); 2. Chris Harwood (Yam); 3. Joshua Harwood (Yam). DlV II: ,.
