Ray Bolte Iuds Bruce Sa.. in Colorado 750cc Production recing, while they pass the next rece's fuel supply in progress. ciation sprim race. Sass, wit~ his seemingly unlimited supply of finely tuned race machinery, dominated the 600cc Production class, 600cc Superbike, Open Production, Open Superbike, Formula Two, Formula One and last, but certainly not least, the Colorado class. Only Ray Bolte and his killer GP could hold oH Bruce in 750cc Production. In the RZ class (or 450cc Production), a large field was led to the finish by Greg Smith followed closely by former MRA number one "Stormin' Norman" Meyer and Peter Honan. However, the 450cc Superbike race was a diHerent story altogether with Danny Walker taking the win on a Suzuki 450 four stroke followed by john Hopperstead and GeoH Cesmat. Walker executed a flawless performance in the Battle of the Twins to lead Dale WingeJeth and Craig Brown's Harleys across the finish line. Brown staged an incredible ride - coming back from a spectacular crash at Aspen two weeks ago to finish this race astride only the frame rails of his bike after his seat bailed 0(( early in the event. Sass, on his road-going YZ490 Yamaha, took the Colorado class (dirt bike class) easily, preceding a real dogfight between Keith Marisco and Mike Evans. Evemually, the advantage went to. Marisco in spite ~f Evan's modified dIrt track move m the final turn, which he describes as "from wheel stuff". Results BEG: 1. Mitch Cool<.: 2. Jim Molder: 3. Ray Prousltv. 450 PROD: 1. Aksland, Green top SactoMX By Nuclear Neukam SACRAMENTO, CA, AUG. 3 The rider turn-out was light in Sacramento Raceway Park's Motobowl but those who came for the action included jimmy "Kamakazi" RoberlSOn, who took the first 250cc Pro molO win, even with a highly audible "clicking" sound coming from his engine (it was later traced LO the clutch where screws were getting loose and rubbing on the casel). Chuck Aksland followed for second. "Kamakazi' could have used a gyroscope on his Suzuki in the second go-'round, however, as his circumnavigation of the track included a few detours -head first - into the dirt. Robertson came 10 the realization that it just wasn't there this night and retired early. Aksland boosted his Yamaha to the win and the overal I. Ryan "yin' at Cycleland ST By David James CHICO, CA, JULY 28 Dave Ryan, on a JMI Racing/ ABCO Business Forms/john Mason Yamaha, showed outstanding skill on the bluegrooved surface at the Moural Associates' Cycleland Speedway. Ryan, who races the Camel Pro Series circuit part-time, roared his Yamaha 10 the checkered flag in the 500cc Expert main event. At the stan of the IO-Iap race, Honda-mounted Mike Gresham charged into the lead with Maicomounted john Taylor second. Along the back straight, Taylor had lots of heat when Ryan worked his way through traHic 10 hold third. It was only a matter of time before Ryan made his move. On lap two, Gresham contined leading, and Ryan was hot on Taylor's rear tire. Taylor came out of turn two as usual, but Ryan had one of several drives to get his Yarnaha under the Maico down the back straight. After passing Taylor, he started closing on Gresham's commanding lead. At the halfway point, Ryan was breathing down Gresham's back. As the twosome entered turn three, Gresham's front tire lost traction and he crashed. Ryan now had the lead with Taylor and Yamaha-mounted joe,Y Gresham fighting for a second POSItion. With Ryan all alone in front, Taylor had trouble holding off Gresham. On the white £Jag lap, Gresham set up the more-experienced Taylor for a pass going into turn three. As they exited turn four, Gresham took second by a wheel. In the 250cc Novice main event, Gamel! Estes captured his fourth win in a row. Estes led iillO the first turn with Can-Am-mounted Shannon Painter right behind. After completing two laps, Estes continued leading, and Painter was passed coming of( of turn two by jerry Douglas, also riding a Can-Am. Doug~ no,:" had a solid second, but he realued It would take some fast riding to win the eight-lap race because Estes had opened up a large lead. However, Douglas was gaining on the leader, and on the final lap, Estes started riding very conservatively, knowing he had the win. Douglas closed the gap going imo turn three, but Estes stayed on the inside groove to hold 0(( Douglas. Painter finished third.
