Jeff Monson took the start only to get passed a half hip later by Paul Merrifield. Monson then low sided, letting Danny Jones'and Marty Long by. Merrifield led, '~hen crashed on the second lap bad enough to call it a day. Jones then took" the lead and the win with Long second. In the second malO, Monson blazed the start again but Long and Charlie Bolinger went by on' the first lap. Monson later said, ''I'm fast on the starts but slow in the comers." First-moto winner Jones crashed hard early and was playing catch-up. Long led the rest of the way while second-place.Bolinger got out of shape on the whoops and crashed. Monson took over second and Jones rode his Suzuki to a distant third. The front runners of the 125cc Intermediate class were turning some impressive lap times. Jarrett Gro£f got the holeshot and led all the way to the checkered flag. Jeff Ridinger ran just a few yards behind Groff. Mark Henson and Galen Floyd were in a fierce battle for third. Floyd tried everything to get by, but Henson held his lines. Groff buzzed his Honda into the lead again in mota two, but Floyd got a much better start and jammed past Groff on the second lap. Groff cruised in second, knowing he had the overall in the bag. Over 30 rider Butch Love made his return to racing after several months off due to a broken leg. Love tweaked his leg trying to chase Idaho racer Bob Kratt, who stopped off on his way to the AMA Amateur Nationals. Kratt won both motos of the Over 30 class with ease. Kirk Patterson and Roger Bellamy turned in some great dicing in the250 Intermediates. Bellamy led the opening laps only to have his rear tire go flat. p.atterson was close behind and flew past for the win. Before the second mota_Bellamy said, "I think I can win if my tires stay up." Bellamy did take the holeshot but Patterson was still a little faster and rode by on lap two for the win. Results PEE WEE: 1. Monte Ham.her (Suz); 2. RustY Wil· liams (Vern). MINI MINI; 1.
