Hayman, Cruickshank crank at Heutter FT By Suanne Light COEUR D' ALENE, 10, AUG. 16 Local Junior Tony Cruickshank (Dicks Suz) and AMA Expert Richie Hayman (Tracy' Collins Yam) cranked out wins at Huetter Speedway's three-eighths mile track, topping the Open and 250cc Expert classes. Troy Hedge continued his rampage on the Airway Heights Yamahas, winning the 80 and 125cc A mains. Hedge swept the 80, 125 and 250cc A heat races in the £ir t round of the three "moto" style program. Hedge continued to make a killing of the evening, running away with the econd sets over young Billy Lenz (Hon) in the 80 and I25cc classes. Lenz got the handle on the second 250cc A race over Hedge, and Paul Phelps and Scott Coyne (Yam). Coming into the final, Hedge had compiled quite an unbelievable tally of firsts and seconds and had a good thing going when Lenz dropped back and left Hedge free to nab his first win of the night in the8Occc1ass with a clean 1-1-1 sweep over Lenz, who took a 2-2-2 and Garth Seldon's 4-3-3. The 125cc A final saw Hedge and Lenz lead the mayhem and put the remaining 10 contestants way back.. Lenz had problems with his Honda and Hedge claimed another win with another II-I tally. Lenz did come back. to smolder the 250cc final and take the brass from Hedge. Todd Sommers (Hon 480) stole the heans of the spectators in the 500cc A main, winning the third of three races going away. Sommers came from nearly last in the eight-rider final to get around Jack.ie Smith (Hon) and Tom Lepo (Hon) at the halfway point to go to the flag with what he thought would be the winning ride. Sommers found out the hard way that his 3-4-1 was to be beat out by Smith's 1- 1-2 and Lepo's 2-3-3. Cruickshank was the focus by the good-sized Idaho crowd at the staging for the Open Experts' final. Cruickshank launched his RM500based flattracker into the lead at the green light and never looked back., just as he did in the first two races. Richie Hayman (600 Hon) gave Cruickshank fits for three laps until the local hero put the hammer down and rode like a man possessed to take top dollars over Hayman, who would be out of the money due to a dismal showing in the second race. Jeff Seldon (Hon) used consistency and held off Phil Hamby (Yam), AMA Junior Tim Stults (Hon), Lepo and Clay Light (480 Hon) for runner-up honors, well behind Cruickshank.
