gate, Szilagyi broke for the Insiae of turn one on the second gate, but was boxed in with the mid-pack riders. Finding his year of non-riding telling, Szilagyi worked with his competitors to finish a well-deserved sixth overall for the night. Jones kept on track and took the overall with the night's only I-I score. Robbie Stanton maintained his consistency and took the second-place brass amid a real jumbled second motoand his 3-4 score was just good enough. Rounding. out the trophy positions were Barry Car on and Brian Bean in third and fourth. Bakersfield's traveling crew visited the Dunes and their good old boy, Alan Pierce. showed the I 25cc Intermediates how it's done with a first place ride amid the buzzing green machines. ( Baker,lloeseler cook at SRA GP By Joyce Owens CARLSBAD, CA, JliLY 29 The Open bikes started the day's racing off with a count of 72 on the line at the Southland Racing Association's Carlsbad GP. Into the first turn Craig Adams (Hon) dipped in -close to the inside but was overtaken by Mike Baker (Yam) at the long sweeper to the start of lhis exciting race. At the finish it was Baker (Yam) in for the win, with Larry Lawrence second and Chris Crandall third. The 250cc class started off with the riders roaring into the first turn_ Larry Roeseler (Hus), coming from the pack, managed a 20-second lead over the second-place finisher, Donald Connelly (Suz), who was two seconds in front of Greg Fountain. - As the Seniors' race began Lynn McGraw took an e'irly lead but was soon dicing to hold it.gainst Charlie Conway. Conway took the lead in the second lap only to be overtaken by McGraw on the pavement. Back on the Amateur line Chuck Mcintosh (C-A) and Bruce Cornell (Hon) battled for their own position, side by side for three laps before McIntosh slipped ahead. McGraw took the checkered first, with Conway out with a nat rear tire. The Vets saw Danny Sanchez take the early lead and go on for the win. Buster Lawrence (Yam) took second over Tore Anderson.
