PlIO SERIES ~ YEARS AGO SEPTEMBER 1-2-3, 1984 BRAINERD INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY AMA National Motorcycle Bracket Bike Drag Racing Road Race September 1-2 September 3 Yamaha's Kenny Roberts rode 10 viclOry in the AMA Grand National Championship Series 'IT at Peoria, Illinois, and so became only the third rider to score wins in all five types of AMA Grand National racing. Second and third went to Harley-Davidson riders Gary Scott and Mike Caves. Kawasaki's Jimmy Weinert smoked both molOS to take the overall win in the AMA 500cc National MX held in Mexico, New York. With CZ rider Tony DiStefano finishing fifth, Weinert also took over the points lead. In the 250cc National a mudhole played havoc with the field in the first molO, and Marty Tripes turned in a 1-5 ride on his Husky 10 win overall. Second went to Can-Am's Gary Jones (4-3) and he was followed by Yamaha teamster Tim Hart (2-6). A first apd a second in the two molOS of the Belgian round of the 500cc World MolOcross Championship wasn't enough to give Husky's Heikki Mikkola any more of an edge in his title fight with Suzuki's Roger DeCoster, who turned in a second and a first. Super Cycle Labor Day Weekend Kevin Hasten rode a big-bore CZ to first overall in an AMA D-37 hare scrambles. Hasten led from the bomb while BulLaco-mounted Cordis Brooks had 10 come from behind and pass Wayne Cook for second overall, first 250cc Expert. Larry RoeseIer finished sixth overall, first Trailbike Expert on a Harley Baja. And to prove that dinosaurs weren't dead, Larkin Wight won the Open Novice class on a Triumph. Camplng-A Special Feature of SIR A Super Cycle labor Day weekend, combining road racing and drag racing. The world's top motorcyclists will be on hand Saturday and Sunday to compete in the exciting Comel Pro series road racing event at BIR. AMA notional competition in Superbike and Bottte of the Twins takes place on Saturdaywhile Formula I, Formula II and Sidecar is scheduled for Sunday. Riding a pair of Bullacos, he took both the 250cc and Open Expert classes for his trouble. The night motocross winning streak of Honda rider Mike Bell stopped at 12 events when he seized in the first molO of a 125cc Pro race at Ascot Park. With Bell out and first-molO winner Tim Lunde (Kaw) breaking in the seocnd molO, top cash went to Honda rider Mark Tyer. Kawasaki riders Jan Waples and Brad Oxley finished 1-2 in the IOOcc Novice class at an Elsinore Raceway "fTc' , .
