With only a few laps remaining,
Hicks crashed ending his hopes of a
decent finish. "I found myself in the
pack and I got on the gas," said
Hicks. "I passed Healey for about
ninth and then 1 went over a berm
and dropped back. I'm definitely
going to get them in the next race!"
Healey finally found some room
around the traffic and made his way
into sixth with two laps to go. When
the checkered £lag £lew, Moore took
the win with a large distance over
Brown, Kiedrowski, Kalos and Healey.
Moore won all three motos in this
class for a low score of three. Kiedrowski finished second overall ahead
of Brown, Healey and Kalos.
The 83cc Modified Expert race
looked to be a showdown between
Hicks and Moore, because they were
tied with two points entering the
run-off. But, when the field exited the
first few turns, Hicks was in fifth
while Moore held his own in eighth.
Langford jumped out to an early lead
pursued by Tichenor, Kawasakimounted Junior Jackson and Dale
Storbeck.
Tichenor stole the lead away from
Langford during the first lap, while
Hicks labored into third. At this
point, only two seconds separated the
first three riders. It didn't take Hicks
too long to pass Langford, and Tichenor was soon to be Hicks' next victim.
But Tichenor didn't give in, either.
One time, Hicks pulled alongside
Tichenor, but Tichenor slammed the
door shut on Hicks. A lap later,
though, the lead belonged to Hicks
and the distance between him and
Tichenor grew.
Healey was still having problems
getting around traffic but had moved
into eighth by this time. Two laps
later, Healey stuffed by three more
riders and that was it for his drive.
Hicks took the win easily and the
overall. Moore's second was good
enough for second overall, while
Tichenor's third gave him third overall. Fourth and fifth overall went to
Healey and Yamaha-mounted Lowell
Thomason.
Entering the final round in the
I05cc Pro class, the point standings
was very close. Hicks and Healey
were tied with two while Moore and
Tichenor were tied with three. Who-
