Atkins never gave Turner more than half a chance to pass, and edged the Cagiva out for second across the line. Peterson pulled another holeshot to stan the second race, followed by Craig Cable's Honda and Jerry Black's Suzuki. By the third lap, Atkins and Turner had moved up and a three-bike batlle for the lead ensued. Atkins got into trouble trying to pass Peterson and lost second to Turner, who edged out Peterson on the final lap LO win the moLO and claim second overall. "Age before beauty" summarized the [irst 125cc Novice moLO. Dwayne Franks flogged his seven-year-old Honda 125 Elsinore around the stadium, catching Roben Froom's Suzuki on the second lap for the lead. Franks held off Harry Vick's Kawasaki and Wolfgang Krogman's Honda LO the checkers. Kawasaki rider Rick MOll led Vick out of the gate to start the second moto, with Franks back in founh. MOll took over on the next lap and Krogman ballled Mott for second. MOll beat Krogman over the line, but the overall went to the Honda. With over 30 l25cc Novices on hand, the action had to be broken into two separate races. The second Novice group was victimized once again by Texan James Taylor on his YZ. Taylor ran off with the lead twice, finishing a full 30 seconds ahead of second-placed Chuck Kaufman's Honda in the first heal. Reynard, Dugan dominate Sunny Valley STITT By Clay Light SUNNY VALLEY, OR, AUG. 4-5 Grants Pass terror Greg Reynard took a triple win at Saturday's short track program at Sunny Valley Raceway with impressive wins in the 250cc and Open A mains as well as the Pro Money main. Reynard came back with his trusty Honda 250 to trounce the 250cc and Open A mains but lost a Pro money TT race in Sunday's program to Californian Ray Dugan, who piloted a 500cc Honda. The Pro money race highlighted Saturday evening with Reynard riding the Grants Pass Suzuki-sponsored Suzuki thumper fast enough LO hold off the charges of Dugan's 500cc Honda and Robbie Blagg's Honda. Blagg missed his heat race and staned well back in the field but picked off countless riders to seule into third over Bob KJum (Hon). Sunday's Open A TT main saw Reynard. Dugan and Roben jokella (Yam) launch their machines into the top three as Jeff Campbell watched from the sidelines and witnessed the trio fighting for some of promoter Rich Word's payoff. Reynard strained for every bit of power out of his 250 while the 500s of Jokella and Dugan hounded from behind. Reynard continued toride above par after topping the 250cc A main and sailed off LOward the flag while Dugan pounded the track and made the race intense in the late going. Reynard held Dugan off for the win. Dugan holeshot the final race of the weekend which was the Pro Money race. Reynard, Klum (Hon) and Campbell (Yam) led the rest of the field through the dogleg section and over the TT jump with Dugan taking control and Campbell going out of the action, ending his season long domination for a winless, dissappointing weekend. Dugan pulled away ahead of sensational Reynard, riding his sixth main of the weekend, and Klum. Dugan did get a scare when Reynard pushed his 250 into the hunt, but was overpowered and ended the evening with runners-up payoff behind Dugan. Results SATURDAY ST MINI A: 1. Wayne Frampton; 2. Jason Mathews. 125 A: 1. Wayne Frampton; 2. Hank Peterson; 3. Lanee Holder. 250 A: 1. Greg Reynard; 2. Bob Klum; 3. Clay Light. The sun over east Texas shone on Troy Rapp as he motored his way to a perfect I-I score in the Over 30 class. In the first moto David Mason (Hon) pulled one fine holeshol. He held the top spot through the th,ird turn and then Rapp (Yam) made his way around. Once Rapp took the lead he went on gaining ground with each lap. Mason held second until lap three when he staned to slow. Dennis Fisher (Suz) took a successful shotat Mason andon lap four Dwight Leatherwood and Dan Howe (Hon) took Mason also. As the checkered flag waved, Rapp had a very good lead over Smith, Leatherwood, Howe, Mason, Joe Thigpin (Suz), Kent Thompson (Hon) and Steve Lignon (Mai). With t.he second moLO on the line Mason had his eyes set on the gate closely and pulled yet another smooth holeshot. Mason turned the wick up but Rapp was not going to play. One quick turn of the wrist and Rapp was by, heading to another unchallenged moto. Thigpin was al 0 ready to race as he also passed Mason. On lap two Leatherwood was making up ground fast as he passed Mason for third. He held on to the end for a 3-3 score, good for second overall ahead of Thigpin's 6-2. . In the Mini classes Shorty jones (Kaw) had a very good day, winning the 80 Stock class with a I-I score and then coming back to win the 80cc Senior event.
