Alan Gerkey (Team Beef/Suz) gra bbed the holeshot a t the start of moto one as Watson and Yamahamounted Mike Simpson followed through the first turn. impson went wide through the second tum, allowing john Francis (Cag) and Suzuki Country's M. Norris to get by. Norris quickly displaced Francis as Watson put the pressure on Gerkey for the lead. With two laps remaining, the pressure became too much for Gerkey and he surrendered the lead to Watson; and orris began to fall off the pace. Watson hung on to win, with Gerkey a distant second, well ahead of Norris. The start of the second moLO once again belonged LO Gerkey. orris and Watson came through the first turn side by side, with Norris edging into second. A few turns later Norris passed Gerkey for the lead. Watson moved to second on lap two, then a lap later, get Norris for the lead. Norris faded back quickly, and with just over a lap to go, Gerkey gained second and suddenly came to life. As they started the last lap, Watson's lead had been trimmed to only a few seconds, and he was heading into some slower riders. The lappers helped Gerkey at first, as he was able LO get close enough to stick a wheel under the Kawasaki rider. But Watson wouldn't budge, and the lappers suddenly became a hindrance after Watson passed one that blocked Gerkey long enough to insure Watson of the win. Gerkey was second overall, and orris third with a 3-3. Results Alan Brunk (Hayward Yamaha). Leading at the start of the combined Open Novice/junior race tonight was jim McDaniel, who quickly fell to the Yamaha of Scott Link. Link held the lead for four laps until Marty Laurey passed him to take the checkers. Ken Sweet finished third that round while junior class rider Erik Schaffer finished fourth on his Honda four-stroke machine. Link took command of the second moto from the start, but disappeared on lap four, leaving SchaUer in the lead. Laurey started fifth, but made his way up to second by the finish to claim the overall. SChaUer was second overall, with Sweet third (second Novice) and Terry Wilcox fourth overall, third Novice. The combined 80cc Novice/junior race saw junior-class rider Rhett Tothergill fight to earn his trophy as he started third to Mike jones and Doug Force in the first moto. Force held Tothergill off for half the race before Tothergill could pass and begin to chase jones. It was too late for Tothergill, however, and jones won that moto over Tothergill and Force. Things went differently in the second round though, as Tothergill led all laps to take the overall over jones, second Novice pilot Doug Force and third Novice-class entrant Pat Bennett.
