apply any pressure to Manning. In the second moto he turned identical lap times, but couldn't close the gap between himself and the factory-sponsored Manning. Manning shot to any early lead in the first moto followed by Fowler, Race Tech's Joe Melton (Suz), and Honda-mounted Greg Nash. In the third tum, Fowler went down, causing a 10-man pile-up which dropped McMahon to 13th (last) place. Sunwest's Steve Cardillo was the first rider to emerge from the pile and was holding oU charges Crom Yamaha of Cucamonda's Scott Conaway. By lap nine, Nash and Melton began to fade, giving Manning smooth sailing to the checkers with Cardillo holding on for second over Fowler, Conaway, and McMahon - who salvaged filth after his early moto predicament. . In round two, McMahon grabbed the holeshot and set a blistering pace for the first lap, but it wasn't quite enough to keep Manning from getting by. Fowler was third, followed by Nash, Suzuki-mounted Chris Fleming, and Conaway. Manning and McMahon put on quite a show by forming a two-man freight train that blasted by almost every rider on the track at least once. Nash was riding without brakes and ended up overshooting a few berms which took him out of contention for the money. Sunwest's Tommy Combs, who was a victim of the first moto pile-up, worked his way from a poor secondmoto start to clinch fifth by the checkers. Manning rode smoothly through the checkered flag with McMahon about five seconds hack. Fowler was third over Fleming, while Conaway managed sixth to clinch fourth place overall money. Like their counterparts in sports car circles, they are realizing that their machines can be made to accelerate harder to a higher top speed without increasing power output and drive train stress by means of careful streamlining. By reducing the relative frontal area, smoothing the laminar air flow along the sides of the motorcycle and creating significant downforce at the fronl of the machine we have succeeded in reducing the negative eHect of the atmosphere on a motorcycle's pl;r{ormance. Tested and approved by the Questerl Sullivan Endurance Racing Team, including a grueling 24 hours in the desert heat of Willow Springs Raceway, the Weigl Telefix Fairing Lowers are constructed of handJaid fibreglass, weigh about nine pounds and come equipped with a racing developed quick detach mounting system.
