Sandona grinds down IMS field By Scott Daloisio SAN BERNARDINO, CA, JULY II John Sandona scored his second win of the year as he took a convincing win in the Scratch main at John LaDouceur's Inland Motorcycle Speedway Wednesday night. Starting from the pole, Sandona (Arai/Sammy Tanner Distributing! Team Tamm!Moto Pro Lubricants/ S.B.V.C.lSTP Wes) got one of the best gates you will see anywhere and carried an astounding two-length lead into the first bend. British league rider Steve Lucero quickly jumped into second but he was sandwiched by Alan Christian and Dubb Ferrell coming out of turn two and quickly dropped to the last spot. Christian occupied second some four lengths behind Sandona until Ferrell shot by on the inside at the end of lap two. Ferrell was unable to close the gap on Sandona, who took the win by six lengths. Christian claimed third with Lucero fourth. Mike Mazzacane (NJK/Pig Inm/ Oakley/Hair by Bev/Parts Plus Jaw) who has been hotter than a stolen pistol, captured his fourth southern California Handicap main in less than a month from the 20-yard line. Fact of the matter is, he captured all three of his rides from the 20 tonight. He first outdueled Mark Dwyer, who also started on the 20. Keith Chrisco and then Sandona both got by Dwyer and began to chip away at Mazzacane's lead. The veteran duo closed the gap but Mazzacane showed why he is now earning the star status on the circuit when he held them off to take the victory by one length. Rich Sweaney (Jaw) captured his second IMS Division Two main. Sweaney, who also captured his heat from the zero, showed everyone the quick way around as he easily led wire to wire in a sterling perfor- mance. Don Faulkner, laSl week's winner; took second when he passed Don Butler at the checkered £lag. Randy Beddow (Wes) raced home to a convincing win in the Third Division main. Beddow, who received a warning from referee Irwin Moon to put on a glove after his heat race, was chased across the line by John Mazzacane and reserve rider Don Jackson. Results SCRATCH MAIN: 1. Faria, Dragony breathe fire at Auburn By Jann Houston AUBURN, CA, JUNE 29 Mike Faria came back to northern California and totally dominated the Scratch portion of the program. In the main event . Faria was a one-man show, far ahead of the rest of the field. Tom Ferris worked hard to maintain the secondplace spot as Pat Linn and Duane Yarrow applied the pressure while trading off on each hip for third. At the checkered it was Faria, Ferris, . Linn and Yarrow. In Handicap action it was Mark Dragony's night to shine, winning his heat, semi and the main event, which he's been working for for a long time. Riding close to the pole Dragony was given no room for error as he felt the heat from Robert Curry and Pat Linn. They were merciless in their pursuit, but never given the chance for the kill. Curry finished second, Linn third. Darrell Anderson, another former NorCal' Junior, ran away with the Division Two event, looking smooth and professional all the way. Dirck Sauer, who has several D-2 wins to his credit, was second and Jeff Jones was third. Rich Simpson took home another win in Division Three, newcomer Robert Damron was second and Kenny Weddingfeld was third. Scott Brant did something unusual in the Junior main; he fell down. Bobby Hedden claimed the win, Coors Wright was second and little Dustin Schroeder was third. • Results SCRATCH MAIN.; ,. Mike Faria; 2. Tom Ferris; 3. Pat Linn; 4. Duane Yarrow. . HANDICAP MAIN: ,.
