McMINNVILLE, OR, JULY I The second biggest· race of the 1984 Mulkey ORV Park schedule had Tim MiChlitsch massacre two classes at the Pro/ NMA qualifier. Michlitsch topped the 250cc and Open Pro classes with . I-I tallies in each for the overalls on his Yamaha Support/Malcom Smith/ Ams-OiIlLRD/FMF/RW Racing/ Town Center Yamahas. John Christian Jr. (Totem Lake Hon) an.d Eric Eaton (Hi-PointiRichter/Scott/Bell/ Kal-Gard/Simons Ohlins/Highland Honda) came down to ·beat Michlitsch, but would both finish runnerup in the motos. Suzuki pilot Ron Sun put his ~un Products RM into the led in the first 250cc Pro moLO, followed by Rick Bozarth (Suz), Doug .Lange (Yam) and Michlitsch, on the opening lap parade. Sun rode strongly - possibly his best moto of the year - holding back Bozarth for the lead while Lange and Michlitsch eyed second. MichIitsch overtook both Lange and Bozarth to land second position at the half as Sun moved inLO a lead all to himself. EaLOn, after a poor start, picked off n urn bers of riders to settle into the top six. Eaton's blistering pace pulled him alongside Lange and Bozarth, who later fell prey to Eaton. Michlitsch took Sun's lead away and held it to the flag. Eaton finished third ahead of Bozarth, Lange and Kevin White (Hon). Moto two had Michlitsch get another good start, resulting in a tum one exit for the lead. Jeff Cropper (Yam), Lange, Bozarth, Ted Holt (Suz) and David Hettinga (Hon) rode in front of Eaton, who worked to sixth at moto's end_ Michlitsch went on to card a I-I tally, Bozarth took second away from Cropper and took a 4-2 second overall beating the 5-4 of Lange. Michlitsch came back LO haunt the Open Pro class and led the pack through the whoop-de-doos on the dusty track. Eaton rode in second and looked to challenge Michlitsch while Grayson Hart (Yam), Lange, Steve Williams (Hon) and Christian gave chase. The pack soon spread out. Michlitsch and Eaton battled until EaLOn stalled, putting himself out of the running. Christian nabbed Hart to move to third at the flag. Lange and Michlitsch put their Yamaha Support rides into the 1-2 slots at the drop of the gate in moto two. The two swapped it out until tangling; that put Christian in the lead. Missing was Eaton, who came from dead last to 10th on lap one, but the pack had put a good three-q uarters of a lap on him.
