Ron Yamamoto of Spokane continues to be unstoppable, motoring easily to the Open and 500cc Expert wins. A 50/60cc main event started off the gorgeous evening of Idaho racing with Jason Nelson nabbing the 60cc portion, blitzing away from Phil Michelson and Jimmy Hansen. The 50cc race was a family affair; Jimmy Hamby and bigsister Michelle Hamby (Hon) ran 1-2 throughout the entire main. Hedge and Lenz landed holeshot honors and guided their crotch rockets into turn one then down the long straightaway for the 80cc Experts. Rival Amateurs Lonnie Kopp and the Pentland clan - Shawn and Jason - kept an eye on the leaders briefly until Lenz and Hedge ran away with the brass. Kopp clobbered the Amateur portion for the win. Washington's Andy James (Suz) and Lenz (Hon) shot off the line to lead a full field of 250cc A main contestants on a night that once again had an overflow of 250cc Amateurs. Fast time setter Terry Wahl look a nasty spill on the fourth lap of the main event, bringing out the red flags and giving Fitzhugh another chance of catching leader Fisher. Fisher used the single file start to his advantage, putting his Sip-N-Oippity's/Buffalo/Simpson/ Garner Yamaha/Wood-Rotax into the lead over Fitzhugh, who rode Fisher's rear wheel for three laps. Then Fitzhugh had mechanical woes and dropped back in a Brian McGonigal (RlX)/Chad Felicio (W-R)/Frank Crane Jr. (Hon) pack. Fisher put his Rotax way out front while Fitzhugh struggled to hold the second slot ahead of McGonigal and Felicio. Felicio wasn't satisfied with fourth and made a last corner pass attempt on McGonigal, which backfired and put the Salinas rider on the ground and out of the running. Crane moved into the vacated position on the Crane Ent/Hap Jones/Simpson Honda. Intensity filled the chilly, 40-degree air at the stan of the Expert 20-lap main event, which staged nine National numbers and three rookie Experts. Green's Hi-PoinllLillie/ProFuel/N-D/Bel-Ray Honda 600 saton the pole position with Fay, Mike Sullivan, Barkman, Wincewiaand Hurst filling out one row. Green grabbed the holeshot as Fay, Barkman and Sullivan chased the Honda Support rider to the TT's dog leg. But, Green soon moved into a lead all to himself. Fay and Barkman swapped it out for second ahead of a Sullivan/Hurst/ Wincewicz/Word war. Barkman put a surprising pass on Fay's Rotax to move into second. Lenzlassoes Huetter TT wins By Clay light COEUR 0' ALENE, 10, JUNE 28 Honda-mounted Billy Lenz blew the lid off Huetter Raceway, winning the 250cc A and the 80cc A mains. Lenz finished as runner-up in two more classes, the 125 and 500cc A mains. National speedster Ron Yamamoto rode his Honda to Open and 500cc Expert wins. Troy Hedge (Yam) was to be Lenz's closest competition in the 125 and 250cc A mains. Hedge and Lenz had a brutal slugfest going on for the lead in the I25cc class, with Hedge getting the nod for the win. Brian Burfot took third. The 250cc round saw Lenz get the handle to lead Hedge and Post Falls Yamaha rider Scott Coyne. Coyne and his YZ would get a good view of the leaders' battle, finishing in the third spot amidst an overnowof250son the summer night. Lenz got revenge on Hedge by topping the main. Fran Gillhoover (Hon) and Lenz, again Honda-mounted, put their 500s into the front running positions at the start of the 500cc A main. Lenz was contesting in his fourth main event and was understandably tired after riding in the series of heats, semis, and mains. He followed GiIlhoover across the line to finish off a credible tally of finishes. Jim LaPlante finished third. Rusty Yamamoto shot off the line in the first three money races, which was the 250cc Expert main event. A classy field of talented riders rode behind Yamamoto. The field consisted of Mike Hayman and Tracy Collins (Yam). Yamamoto has been on a terror in the 250cc class and has dominated all season with the excep- . tion of the season opener. Hayman stayed closest to Yam~l)').qtpJQ{ ~!=9!1.d.
