Nava gets first win at Baylands MX By Mike Vancil FREMONT, CA, JUNE 27 Sam Nava Jr., in his first appearance as an Expert CMC motoerosser, took two moto victories from a seasoned group of I25/250/500cc Ex perts at Baylands Raceway Park. Moto one was not an easy victory as both Nava (Hon) and John Dauth (Hon) had to fight past the quick duo of 125 Kawasakis ridden by James Casey and Darrick Lucchesi, of San Rafael. Nava was pumped about leading his first ever Expert race, not even his out-of-shape landings off jumps seemed to slow him. Dauth hung tough for second behind the smiling Nava. Moto two was easier, as no rider put forth a significant challenge. Dauth faded to third, Lucchesi crashed hard enough to be sentto the hospi ta I for examination, and Randy Law (Hon) pushed hard to finish second in the moto and second overall. The 125cc Junior class was actionpacked as Tony Lamperti, sponsored by Santa Clara Honda. held off the repeated challenges of Tony Peixoto in moto one only to have to do it again in moto two with a hardcharging Mike Hernandez (Yam). The wide track was in prime condition and was the key to the frequeOl lead and position swapping. The 80cc IOlermediate division was a birthday and a victory celebration for Ronald Caton (Suz) as he powered his way to two moto victories. The Novice and Junior divisions were started in a second wave so there was pleOly of action all over the long, demanding course. Ted Wilcox (Kaw) jumped iOloearly leads for the Novice division and young Ricky Peixoto held off the rest of the field to take the Juniors. Mert Lawwill, famous racing star of a few years ago, brought his 14-year-old son Joe to Baylands for a try at MX. Joe had fair starts in each moto, but kept the gas on to place third overall on his Kawasaki. Results BO NOV: 1. Ted Wilcox (Kaw); 2. Ricky Peixoto (Vam); 3. Joe Lewwill (Kew). 60 JR: 1.
