Ward smokes, Naughty gets lucky at Hannegan MX By Paul Nielsen BELLINGHAM. WA, JUNE 21 Larry Ward, Kawasaki-mounted, likes to go fast and did just that at Hannegan MX today. The Minispeedster topped both the I05cc A and 80cc A classes in his usual fashion - winning handily_ In the 80cc A moto. Ward gave his com peti tion a IO-second handicap at the start. By the second lap. Ward had already steamed up through the pack into third and zeroed in on the leaders a few turns later. It wasn't too surprising when Ward shot into the lead by the end of lap three and let Rick Hammer-Jackson and Kevin Kelly decide between themselves for second and third. During the fourth goaround, Kelly made his move and zapped Hammer-Jackson for second. The duel didn't end there. either. For the next four laps. Hammer-Jackson hounded Kelly closely. HammerJackson reclaimed his second position when H-J passed Kelly over the doubles. Ward finished "light years" ahead of Hammer-Jackson and Kelly. In the 80cc C class. Scott Naughty stole the holeshot on his Honda, while Mike Parker and Brian Melton crashed in the first turn. Both recovered quickly to give Naughty a chase. After a fair start. Reed Stanley riding a Bellevue Kawasaki, was on the gas, and by lap three. was pushing the leader hard. During the 10th lap, Stanley made his move and passed Naughty; but, with one lap to go. Stanley slid out giving Naughty the lead and eventual win. Stanley rejoined the race just in time to salvage second. Parker finished just inches behind Stanley. Results -32 -, I06A: 1.
