While some fathers decided to spend the day away from the races others opted to get involved in the Father and Son race. This event was for minibikes only and there were 10 teams. Despite the boasts made by CRGs Jack and Jeff Barbacovi, they did not win; was partially due to the fact that their fast Yamaha 80 was broken so they had to rely upon Jack's faithful XR pit bike. It was noticed that the Barbacovis made the fastest switchoff; alter all Jeff has plenty of practice swiping Jack's bike between motos. Tom and Ryan Spurgin took the60cc . division while Pablo and Chris Lara claimed the 80cc division. Results (Above) Don Litteral (181) gets a little crazy at NMA Saddleback. (Below) Randy Skiver (35), Dale Zlock (23) and Jeff Morrow at S.I.R. • earned a fine fourth at the flag. Twelve riders lined up for the final Expert contest, the Open class. It would prove to be a stellar show of the entire season to date as Yamamoto launched his National number 46-plated Honda CR500 into the lead under starry Idaho skies. Wick, Hayman (Tri) and fellow heavyweight John Mattocks (Hon) rode in a blur of speed, chasing the diminutive Yamamoto throughout the entire main event. Stults and Rusty Yamamoto made the Open main similar to the 500cc main, with the exception of Hayman, this time on a Pantherframed 750 Triumph. Hayman hooked up quite nicely, but watched from the distance as Yamamoto and Wick walloped the talent-laden field. The finish order read Yamamoto, Wick and Rusty Yamamato ahead of Hayman. Mouseinfhe moneyatCRC Indian Dunes By Tom Corley VALENCIA, CA, JUNE 17 32 Mouse McCoy, 14, made the big leap to the 125cc Pro class and this venturt; proved to be a successful one, defeating Team Tamm's A.J. Whiting who suffered a final motoengine failure. Along with that exceptional Pro contest, a father and son event made for a special day with the California Racing Club at Indian Dunes. McCoy grabbed the lead in the first moto but was pressured by the moreexperienced Whiting. At the end of a sandy loop McCoy got out of control and dropped his Kawasaki. Whiting took the lead and kept it. McCoy picked up his machine and continued in second place which meant that he still had a good shot at the overall win. Jack Greenberg took his KalGard Yamaha to third over Bruce Delgado and Rich Truchinski. Delgado put his Suzuki of Van uys bike in the lead of the final moto, but it was brief as both McCoy and Whiting cleared past him. It was then a two-man race and the excitement began when McCoy and Whiting came to a corner in front of the announcer's tower. Whiting was squeezed off his line and flew off the berm. McCoy wasn't rid of Whiting, though, and it was on the turn past the tower that Whiting took over the lead. After working so hard for the lead Whiting came to a halt as his engine stopped. McCoy regained the lead and took the win. Kawasaki/JT/Scott-supported McCoy took a 2-1 tally for his first cash win and Delgado was the only rider who won a cash prize for his 4-2 60 NOV: 1. Zahrf zaps AME Summer Bash 'B4 By Tom Griffith VALENCIA, CA, JU E 15 The Summer Bash '84 went without a hitch under the lights on Indian Dunes International Track. American Motocross Enterprises welcomed the riders on this the second special Friday night of racing with mega-sponsorship in the form of merchandise and gift certificates from season sponsors including Kal-Gard, O'Neal USA, Works Performance, Simpson Sports, Cycle-Am, Mikuni, Gator Tuff, A'ME Grips, and Budwei~ beer. With Lancaster Yamaha rider Doug Houston and Baker field's Lance Goodman trading moto wins in the Mini Junior class, the mixed field of Juniors and Intermediates put on an outstanding display. Huston and Goodman chased each other throughout both motos bUI Goodman had to settle for second overall behind Huston's 2-1 tally in first overall. Finishing out the trophy positions was Burbank Kawasaki rider Kevin Berry, taking a fourth in moto one and a second between Huston and Goodman in moto two. The 250cc Pro class saw another of the Bakersfield crew, Greg Torgerson, fight head to head with 1983's AME Number one Pro, Kenny lahrt, for first in moto one with Torgerson followed hotly by lahrt at the finish. Simi Honda/O'Neal rider Zoli Meszaros kept the pressure on with a third followed closely by Apple Valley's John Ray. Second-moto action saw lahrt and Torgerson goingat itonemore time. But at the checkers in round two, lahrt took the first place and the overall al the pay window. Torgerson had to be content with third behind a fine ritle of lahrt and charging Meszaros_ Overall it was lahrt, Torgerson and Meszaros. 1983 Summer Series Champ Guy Giffin continued his winning ways with consistant maturity, winning both molOS of the 250cc Intermediate class. Giffin had to contend with a scrappy field of hard chargers as Cam Johnson pressured him all night, going 2-3 for second overall with Curt Farar taking his Yamaha into third with a solid 5-2. RR By Bruce Scholten KENT, WA, JUNE 10 It's OK to say that Team Totem Lake corralled plenty of trophies at this AMA D-27 semi pro road race at Seattle International Raceway. Led by the Correll brothers, Kirk, Bryan, Kelly and Mike, they did. "Kirk is the fast one," said Bryan. Kirk Correll and his 500 Interceptor fought to second place in 600cc Production, sandwiched by the Westside Honda Interceptors of Ken Wimer and winner Ben Booth. In 600cc Cafe, Kirk Correll and Wimer took second and third, respectively, behind Larry Buck's Dave Tatum Enterprises GPz550. Bryan Correll did all right for himself in Open Cafe, with a second behind Steve Littlejohn's Katana. He took a third in Open Production, where his CB-lIOOF was out-gunned by Littlejohn and Marvin Braun's surprising CBX. If you think that Totem Lake is a family affair, you're on the right track. Kelly Correll rode a Honda to third in Open Single GP, behind NESRA's Eldon Warren and Chris Denzler. Completing the most extensive brother act at S.I.R. was Mike Correll, whose GPz750 just barely snatched , second place in 750cc Cafe away from
