Friend, Molder strike at Sturgis SDGP By Brian George STURGIS, SD, MAY 26 Round five of the South Dakota Gran Prix Series moved back to Sturgis Raceway on Saturday, and Dave Molder picked up another pair of overall Pro victories in his bid to catch series points leader Billy Stork. Molder took the 250 and 500cc Pro classes, while American Honda/Spearfish Hondasponsored Mike Friend grabbed the 125cc Pro top honors with a pair of moto victories in that category. _ First out of the gate were the 250cc Pros, and as the pack headed into the first tum Moldei and Stork were sideby-side. Friend was knocked down and restarted in last place. Friend began to pick oU riders until he reached third place, but once again he went down and had LO remount and recapture third place. At the wire, Friend finally dropped to fifth. Out front Stork kept on Molder's rear fender until the white flag flew. HaHway through the last lap, he slipped by Molder and into the lead. Molder tried to regain the lead, but was unsuccessful, as the checkered flag came out with SLOrk first, Molder second, Mark Harwood third and Curt Hyde fourth. Moto two was Friend's chance to show his stu£[ as he grabbed the early lead and pulled away to the checkers. Molder kept him in sight all the way to the end, but could not find a way into the lead. Second was good enough for Molder, as it gave him first overall to SLOrk's 1-3 second. Friend LOok third overall, with Hyde fourth. . One-twemy-uve action belonged LO Friend, as he took the lead early in each moLO, and ran his advantage to the wire. Friend took the lead on the opening lap of round one, while LeeVem Berry, Molder, Stork and Ladd Poitra ran behind. Molder slipped by Berry for second, and held on to the runner-up slot until the checkers, as Friend grabbed the moto win, and third went to Berry. Friend again took control of round two in the I25cc Pros, and once more ran away with the moLO. This time Stork and Molder hada head-LO-head brawl for the first haH of the moLO, with Stork finally slipping by one turn from the completion of lap five. Stork began LO set out after Friend, but Friend was too far out in from LO catch. Friend came home with the overall win, while Molder's third was good enough for second overall ahead of SLOrk. Berry came in fourth in moLO twO for fourth overall, as Stace Waugh rounded out the top five. Results 125 PRo: 1. Mike Friend lHon); 2. Dave Molder (Hon); 3. Billy Stork (Hon). 250 PRO: 1. Edge ANCHORAGE, AK, MAY 20 Jeff Roskelley carried his unbeaten streak in Alaska Motorcycle Racing Association motocross to 18 motos. The day brought out a lot of racers with the lure of double points. Kevin Schaub unbeaten in the 250cc Expert points races, stretched out his lead while Kelly Butlerfinally lost a moto in the hard-fought 125cc Expert class. Kawasaki Cycle Cache-sponsored Butler jetted LO an early lead in moto one of the 125cc Expert class and looked to be an easy winner, but a clogged air filter left him in fifth at the checkered flag. Butler avoided trouble in the second moLO LO take first place. Four racers tied on overall class points but Butler had it with the beller second moLO finish. Kevin Schaub (Hon) won both motos of the 250cc Expert class for the third Sunday in a row. Schaub also raced the 125cc Expert class, but his 1-6 was only good enough for a fifth overall. The start of the first 500cc Expert moto found Roskelley in mid-pack, and while trying LO work his way to the front, he went down. After remounting, Roskelley pulled out.the SLOpS and by the end of the moLO was in his favorite place - first. MOlO two saw Roskelley keep the rubber side down and motor on to the win. It was the Roskelley show again in the Pro class, with Butler back in second with Tim Kelley (Yam), Brent Battin (Hon) and Jim Stewart (Suz). Suzuki Motorcycle and Marine-sponsored Stewart put all those years of experience to use by besting both Kelley and Bauin. ..-' After coming in second in moto one, Robb Butler, the current Mini Expert points leader, was out for the day with a bad crash and a possibly fractured arm. Kelly Styles (Kaw) and Kawasaki Komer's Jason Anderson traded moLO wins with the overall going to second moLO winner Styles. Most of the racers used the day to warm up for the upcoming Alaska State Motocross Championship series. Thirteen time state champion Scou Davis, from Soldotna, is expected LO come out of retirement to go against the kid Roskelley for the title. . Results OUR MICHELIN nRE WOULD BE HERE.
