METZELER THANKS DUNLOP ofthenight in event 16 but he worked his way from the back and passed J im Lawson on lap three for the win. He came right back in event 17 to defeat Faria in a dogfight to end up with 13 points. After Lawson claimed event 18, Ferrell won what has to be considered one of the best ever races at IMS. Woods, out of four, got the gate over Ferrell and King. Ferrell hammered on the door with King hoping to follow through but Woods was always equal to the challenge until the last corner when Ferrell pulled alongside and took the win by inches over Woods with King finishing in third right on their fenders. The crowd went absolutely insane. Moran closed out the heats by taking an easy must win in event 20. forcing a run-off with Christian for the title. The first run-off was for second place and it featured Ferrell. Faria and King. King drew the pole and was first out over Ferrell but Ferrell, in his familiar chin over the handlebars style, shot by for the lead coming out of turn two. Faria also got by King but there was no further to go as Ferrell held them at bay to win by two lengths. Moran won the coin toss in the run-off for first and chose gate four. pUlling Christian in two but that is all the defending National Champion was to win. Christian got the gate and led the entire four laps as Moran searched for traction and speed he could not seem to find and he finished three lengths back of the happy wmner. for sponsoring the Dunlop/WERA National Endurance series at Road Atlanta, GA., June 2, 1984 where... Times change. This year, Ou is ninth in track points and he just won the Handicap main for his first win at the Commotion By The Ocean since 1982. And also on a night that separated the real speedway fans from the real Laker fans, Kelly Moran made everyone forget featured guest Bobby Schwartz as he took the Scratch main over "Flyin' Mike" Faria for the third time. Schwaru. coming o£f a big win in the American Speedway final, could only muster one win in six rides against the Tuesday night usuals. The drama for the night began in the Scratch semis. Moran dusted off Ed Castro, who in turn, dusted off the other two guys in a fast but un-frantic race. In the other one. Schwartz did the unthinkable on a Tuesday night when he had a two-length lead out of the gate before Faria could even budge from his second startihg position. But Faria started flying around the outside as only he can do. and soon Schwartz's lead was in jeopardy. It was wheel-to-wheel for a lap, with Faria pulling even on the outside, and finally with a neat crossover around turn four stole the lead from 1st HEAVYWEIGHT SUPERBIKE 4th Overall 1st LIGHTWEIGHT PRODUCTION NORTHRIOGE RACING Yamaha FJ1100 TEAM STAR WARS Honda CB400 Doug Cross.
