Atakeit Sf Lo C!gala • UIS HOlida Performance Products Super Pro" Enduro Computer Before the advent of integrated circuits (ICs) and liquid crystal digital displays (LCDs), enduro riders didn't have much of a choice when it came to timekeeping equipment. Back in the good 01' days, the hot set-up was a pocket watch (sans chai n, of course) mounted behind some sort of magnifier. That arrangement worked well enough so long as you remembered to wind it before each event (no batteries needed), but trying to guess the exact position of the minute and second hands while bouncing along was not always ea y. The arrival of electronic enduro computers and clocks has implified the task of ti mekeeping. The Performance Products Super Pro II computer is probably the most sophisticated ,unit available. And you don't have to possess a degree in computer science to operate it - it's as simple as setting a digital watch (maybe even easier) as long a you follow a few basic instructions. The Super Pro II has two basic displays to chao e from. It can read out either miles or minutes, and you can switch back and forth at will with the touch of a button. In the mileage mode, to stay exactly on time simply keep the mileage on your odometer the same as the LCD display on the computer. In the minutes mode, the unit performs as a simple enduro clock, and the display flashes so you can't confuse it with the mileage mode. The real beauty of the unit lies in the mileage mode. It' a simple matter to enter ("program" in computer lingo) speed changes (up to 30, ranging from three to 82 mph) at the desired mileage. And even if you run enduros at strictly 24 mph averages, the computer can still help you out. At any speed average, it warns you of all possible check locations by Clashing a digit to the extreme left of the display (if you so desire). Let's say the computer reads 8.00 miles, and you see a Clashing four on the left of the display. The next possible check will be right at 8.40 miles, so be on your toes! But when do you go through the check? The computer tells you that, too. A CIa hing colon appears within .15 miles of the check, and when it goes out your minute comes up, making it simple to zero checks. The Super Pro II does its job very well, but it may be hard to justify the $225 suggested retail price. From what we've seen, it's a rugged unit and should last a good long time, and the first time it prevents you from burning a check, you'll be glad you had it. We feel it's a good investment for the serious enduro rider. Contact Performance Products, P.O. Box 1294, Lacombe, LA 70445, or phone 5041 882-3107. Tom Kolnowski Fire""otlc.
