AFTER OUR ENGINEERS ED THE BEST ~ EPRODUCTS, WE CAN ED THEM. Kelly MonIn lost only once all night. finishing up with 14 points and a transfer to the Overseas Final. had stated just before the start, "I have to win my last three races. That's all there is to it." He then came right back in heat 13, and got a great gate but was quickly passed by Shawn Moran who raced away for thewin. Millerdid doa masterful job to hold off King for second and pick up lWO important points. Schwartz again destroyed the field in event 14, putting him over the hump and earning him a trip to Belle Vue. His reaction: "It's a little slick coming out; let's get ready for my next ride." Kelly Moran held off Cook the entire distance in heat 16 to win a wild affair that had the crowd on their feet all the way. King led wire to wire in a must-win situation in heat 17 while Miller placed himself in a run-off for the reserve spot by outclassing the field in heat 18. Faria knew he had to win heat 19 to have any chan·ce. Unfortunately he started in gate three wtih Morans on both sides. As they emerged from the first bend he found himself strongly mired in third behind both Kelly and Shawn who raced to'a 1-2 finish to advance in the World title ·chase. Heat 20. Could Schwartz core a perfect IS? He had earlier asked Jim Lawson, a reserve, not to get in his way if he needed the points to transfer. Obviously at this time he had no worries. Cook, on the other hand, had to win and he got a great gate and was running away [rom Schwartz when Pfetzing slid into the fence and Lawson laid it down in turn four, bringing out a red. Cook was livid, and so were a number of fans and people in the pi ts, as they questioned why Pfetzing went down_ At any rate PfeLZing was ruled out for the re-run and Cook again got the gate but he was passed by Schwanz in the first bend. Cook's clutch was shot and so were his chances. If there had been no red he probably would have won and transferred. When there was a red his clutch got too hot and he now faces Miller in a run-off for the reserve spot in England. (It would have been staged Saturday but the ambulance left as the final checkered fell for Schwartz.) Schwartz, after earning five-straight wins, was happy but very somber at the trophy presentation. "Harry (Oxley) drew my name in the pool and he said, 'If you win you get half the $20' (Harry actually won $100 and gave Schwartz $50). It feels great to win but it is a sad situation for Dennis. It's a great loss to OUT team. I do feel great and I would like to thank everyone who has helped my entire life. They know who they are." Results • 1. Bobby Schwanz (Wes) 15; 2.
