Christian crusades to
IMS win
By Scott Daloisio
SAN BERNARDINO, CA, JUNE 6
Alan "Crazy" Christian warmed
up for the American Final by
racing to a convincing win on
a cloudy, chilly night at John
LaDouceur's Inland Motorcycle
Speedway.
Dubb Ferrell, from the pole, was
first out of the gate over Sam Ermolenko and Christian. As they approached thefirst corner Ferrell made
a slight manuever LO the right that
sent the field into disarray. Christian'
quickly recovered and put the STP/
Val voline/Bell/ Hi-Poi n t/PBI /
Tsubaki Godden in front of Ferrell as
they exited turn four on the opening
lap. Ferrell managed to stay close for
a lap before Christian started LO pull
away for what turned outLO be a halfstraightaway win. While Christian
and Ferrell were out front, Sam Ermo·
lenko and Kelly Moran bauled side
by side for the third spot. Ermolenko
. beat Moran to the line by inches.
Randy Blevins (Hy Tecb/Jones
Goggles Godden) made only his
second IMS First Division appearance and he won the Handicap main

DeTemple, Sullivan
Visalia victors
By Bill Locey
VISALIA, CA, JUNE 2
Dave DeTemple started a streak
of his own even as he ended
Randy Griffith's by winning
the Scratch main at round four
of Saturday night speedway in Visalia.
Rodney Sullivan looked good in
winning the Handicap main for the
second time this season - this time
off the 20.

In Scratch racing, DeTemple went
faster than the CHP after a speeder
over the Grapevine as he easily won
his heat. In his semi, it was no contest
again as DeTemple won by plenty
over Bakersfield rider Ron Hardin
who held off Don Butler and Sullivan to earn his ticket to the main.
The main wasn't such a cruise for
DeTemple. If the race had've been 15
feet shorter, Hardin would've won.
As it was, DeTemple made a timely,
not LO mention wild, last-turn drive
which gave him the lead a split
second before the checkered. A ways
behind the leaders, there was another
two man baule as local Todd Varner
held off Griffith in a replay of their
semi.
Kingsburg karate instructor Mike
ReMine, whom everyone calls "sir,"
won the Second Division main.
