With tbe quickest maclline over the fist 100 yards, Healy started to move on the leaders and began challenging for first. With two laps remaining, all eyes were focused Brown as he kept the Honda glued LO he track as first Healy. then Hick . took tumbles right out of concentration. Ju t before the white flag, Brown came into view without either Hick or Healy, but with a charging Kawasaki of Moore in hot pUT uit. The moto provided some excellent dicing and allowed Moore's domination to be at least tarnished by the moLO win by Brown's Honda. The overall finishing order stil I gave Moore a triple with win in all three Mini classes as Stock, Modified, & 10Scc Expert champion today. Brown picked his way LO overall seconds in the Expert 105cc & .Stock classes and a good third in the Modified . Palmdale's Eddie Hicks took too many spills, but did get orne brass with a third in the IOSee go. R & D rider Mike Healy salvaged a second-place trophy in the Modified Expert class, completing the trophy positions. Celebron celebrates over Perez's blunder at Spillway By Jim Pluhar SANTAMARIA, CA, MAY 20 The most amusing incident at Spillway Park's weekly motocross in the Santa Maria river bed wasn't so amusing to the rider involved. Rick Perez won his first event in the 2SOcc Junior class going away and came from behind to take the lead in his second event when the most unusual thing happened. Perez came over the table LOp jump just ahead of the checkered flag, waved to the crowd, sLOpped to talk to a friend who had gone out earlier with mechanical problems and never real ized that he had not yet taken the checkered flag until two other riders in h is class had passed him. Perez had LO settle for third for the day, while Mark Celebron and Stuart Carroll were finishing first and second. Celebron wound up with the overall. Kenny Millsap, Richard Smith and Bruce Webber were one-two-three in the 2S0cc Novice class, but Don Stinchfield of Santa Barbara was out for the day when a fall on the fir tlap of the first event caused the rider a painful knee injury. Brad Beaman took his Honda to the lead on the la t lap of his first event in the 12Scc Novice division LO beat Nipomo's Nathan Kennicutt to the checkered flag. He then came back to beat Paul Kashanj in the second event to take first for the day. Kashani placed second and Kennicutt was third. Both Tony Mayes and Brad Toms dropped out of the 12Scc Intermediate division on lap seven of the first event and were unable LO return for event number two after mechanical problems. Tom Holland Mike Mari- ani took their Kawasakis LO fir t and second place in the class. Results 60 MINI; 1. Torev Avleswonh (Kaw). 80 NOV: 1. Mike Farzaneh (Hon); 2. Gary Far· zaneh (Yam); 3. Moore moves toward Ponca City By Tom Griffith LAS VEGAS, NV, MAY 19-20 With nearly half of the overall wins going to local hotshoes at the National Motosports Association'squalifier in Las Vegas, Valencia, California rider Bobby Moore stole the show with a nearly perfect two-day riding display. Competing in his last series chasing the crown as Mini King before moving to the bigger bikes, Moore pulled an incredible six-for-six hole hots in the Mini Expert Stock, Modified and !OSee classes. With the locals being certain you had LO fall at least once each moLO, Moore was able to let the ever-changing track conditions only get him once, and then he managed to work back LO second by race end. A the gate '.ell on the Mini Expert LOck class on Sunday, Moore extended his streak )f holeshots and began LO move out or. the field. Looking as impressive as al;y of the locals who know the "ins and outs" of this track, Moore did get a bit too aggressive over the double jumps in the backstraight. With only a few of the Pro riders able to clear the doubles in a consistant fashion, Bobby went for the 40 to 50 (oot leap, only 10 end up off the track. This time S Oll Brown and Eddie Hick were only seconds behind and passed into first and second. The field quickly caught up PEE WEE STK: 1 B. Thacker (Yam); 2. B. 8urnson (Yam). JR CYC 6-8: 1. Kemp captures CRC's Puckerbush enduro By Mike Klinger LUCERNE VALLEY, CA, MAY 20 This year's California Racing Club's Puckerbush Enduro will be a race to remember. The three loop event took place at old faithful, Anderson Dry Lake, which seemed to be a good location for this time of year. Well, for some odd reason this particular weekend in May was drenched with unseasonably scorching heat! The rider attendance was down, riders were dropping out of the competjtion because of exhaustion and the wind and dust was unbearable. But, LO the 400 riders that did compete, the final results put Randy Kemp on LOP as the overall winner beating four-stroke ace Jim Bollingmo Jr. by only three seconds. Robb Mesecher took third-place honors and teamed up witb his dad, Robert Mesecher in the Parent/Child Division; they took the overall win for the reams. Open C rider Nelson Oroszi turned in the best score for the two loop riders with Keith Stuart trailing in second place by a slim lO second. Four Mini A riders zeroed loop one wi th Scott BrisLOI placing first with a score of four seconds. Scott Jacobsen, John Lucas, and Ron Plall all zeroed the 32 mile loop.
