Yankee determination was evident in the next race when Moran scored his first victory on the day over Wigg and his partner Sam Ermolenko picked up another point by finishing third. The next race wa a 3-3 split, but then England came back to within two as Peter Collins and Wigg finished in front of Cook and King. The most impressive of the American riders was Lance King with 10 points, but his form could make little impression on unbeaten Danes Erik Gundersen and Hans Nielsen. The biggest disappointment was the form of World Champion Egon Muller, who struggled to three points and never showed any signs of the pace that made him the world's num- ber one at Norden last year. In a six-lap, six-rider race, Nielsen beat Gundersen and Preben Ericksen. Engine troubles forced out the other qualifiers - Chris MOrlon, B.
