Stork scores another double at SDMX By Brian George RAPID CITY, SO, APR. 22 Billy Stork again dominated the 125 and 250cc Pro classes, since Dave Molder is out with his ankle in a splint. This gave the other Open Pro riders some hope for an overall win. Lynn Hyde lOok advantage of the opportunity, as he rode to the overall win in that category. SlOrkjumped into the early lead of the 250cc Pros while Brian George, tace Waugh and Curt Hyde gave chase. Immediately, Stork began 10 pull away. Waugh a.nd Curt Hyde slipped past George m the opemng lap, then George went down, allowing Lynn Hyde, Denley Johnson and Greg Hyde by. The remainder of the molO was an easy win for tork, who motored to a comfortable win ahead of Waugh, Curt Hyde and Lynn Hyde. Round two saw Stork take the lead out of the gate, and once more walk away with the molO. This time, Greg Hyde and Lynn Hyde ~ve chase, with Todd Willis close behmd. At the wire, it was SlOrk with the win ahead of Greg Hyde and Lynn Hyde. When the 125cc Pros took off the line for their first molO, SlOrk and Ladd Poitra bauled for the lead. The duo pushed each other around for the first few laps, but Stork wheeled out in front and managed 10 hold back Poitra eariy on. As the molO pro· gressed, Stor·k stretched the margin over Poitra, whoin turn was comfortably ahead of Waugh and Greg H~de. At the wire it was the same leadll1g order; Stork, Poitra, Waugh and Hyde. MOIO two found a retake of the first start, as Lhe pack headed through the first turn, wiLh Poitra and Stork battling. Stork went into the lead early, and from that time the race was as good as over. Stork ran to tbe checkered flag virtually untouched, while Poitra put in a consistent ride for second in the moto and overalls. Jeff Johnson took the holeshot in the first Open Pro moto ahead of Lynn Hyde, Greg Chicoine, and Al Hermanson, and immediately the two leaders began a battle for the lead that separated Lhem from the pack. Hyde tried desperately in the opening laps to get by Johnson, butthe leader held firm. Hyde worked inside of Johnson to take over first place by the halfway mark in the moto, and Lhe rest of the laps Hyde spent increasing that lead. At the flag, Hyde rolled in the easy winnerover Johnson, whileCmcoine came across in third. Fourth went to Hermanson, while Bicek had to settle for sixth after stalling a few time. Round two saw Hyde take the holeshot with Hermanson and Bicek in tow, and Johnson off in dead last. Hyde wasted no time in pUlling some distance between himself and the battle for second, which was going to Bicek. Johnson continued to work his way steadily through Lhe backmarkers, and in the final laps slipped by Chicoine for fourth. The top Lhree slots went to Hyde, Bicek and Hermanson. Results 125 PRO: 1. The only front fender "system" you'll need for all occasions. ACERBIS RACING FENDERS ARE AT YOUR HI-POINT DEALER Roskelley wins Alaska snowcross .+ By M.R. Edge ANCHORAGE, AK, APR. 22 Jeff Ro kelley spent the winter ra ing in Florida and returned to Alaska to show the locals what he had learned. The Alaska Motorcycle Racing Association held its fi rSI mOlDcross of the year on a track with four inches of snow on it. The chuming of knobby tires, along with the sun, melted the snow by the cond round of mOlDS. Roskelley won today's Pro class, an open displacemelll class where racer compete for money. The first molO saw Roskelly holeshotthe start, but a frozen patch of mud sent him on his head. Erik Mun on (Yam) inherited the lead, and was unbelievably fast and stylish. However, a spectacular crash left him last. A remounted Roskelley worked up to econd, but had a hard time trying to pas fellow Kawasaki Cycle Cachesponsored rider Kelly Butler. Butler was riding an outstanding race. Roskelley went down one more time, remoullled and again began challenging Butler. Eventually, Roskelley edged past Butler. Meanwhile Munson was working his tweaked bike through the pack. Munson accompanied Ro kelley lD Flonda, and their winter training definitely was an advantage. Munson got up to fourth place by the end of the mOlD, with Roskelley in first and Butler in second. The start of the second mOlD was a replay of the first, with Roskelley in Lhe lead. Butler was glued to his rear fender for the first few laps, but Roskelley pulled away and took thecheckered flag. Butler took second, and a distant Lhird was Alaskan veteran Jim Stewart. Stewart, sponso~ed by Suzuki MOlDrcycle and Manne of Anchorage, managed third overall, through consistant riding. Munson was unable lD race the second moto due 10 the condition of his bike. Both Butler and Stewart also raced in the 125 cand 250cc Expert classes, respectively, and completely dominated each mOlD. Roskelley decided to limit himself lD the money class only. Bruce Stingley (Hon) had some tough competition in Lhe500cc Expert class from Ken Conde (Kaw) and Jim Kuhn (Hon) but his smooth and fa t riding gave him a well deserv d Itr t in both molOS.
