the 250cc Novice class. Steve Crower (Kaw/Don Vesco) wasCunningham's major concern throughoul the day, as he led both molOS in (he early stages but surrendered I he lead to finish behind Cunningham each time ' out. John Burr Cycles' Paul Dayton (Hon) shot his open bike into the first turn ahead of Crower and fellow open rider Ron Shuler (Yam). Cunningham was behind the open bikes taking a ration of roost. By the third lap, Crower led wi.th Cunningham in hot pursuit after gelling by the big bikes. Crower put up a good fight. but it wasn't quite enough to keep Cunningham in second, as a lap later, he came around in first and started riding at the limit with no traffic to contend with. Yamahamoullled Mike Allen worked his wav up from a last-place start to finish third behind Crower and Cunningham, who cruised through the checkers first with time to spare. Yamaha-mounted Rob Carpelller won the drag race to the first turn in the second moLO, with Crower: Shuler, Dayton and Ron Tohon (Hon) in tow. Cunningham was second to last in the first turn, but started a mad dash for the leaders during which he passed five riders in one lap. By lap two, Cunningham found himself in second behind Crower and started pressuring the Kawasaki pilot. Allen ran third in the 250cc class. but the Open riders were giving Allen fits by not lel.ling him by to give him a . chance at winning his own race. CWlningham took first away from Crower on lap four and started pulling a comfortable lead that carried him through the checkers in first again. Crower was second, but not without a good fight with Allen, who ended up third. Tohon was fourth overall with a 4-4. THE OILY DIE THAT CAl mPLAWSDI...
