eta- Northern California-Northern Ne are in, and the first IS-inch machine to finish was well behind the booming four-strokes. The Junior Main was the one race everyone was exci ted about. Rod Reynolds looked cool and collected in the pits prior to his bailie, and his dad, Rich Reynolds, said flatly, "We're going to win this one!" Rich was right, ~s Rodney scooted into the lead at the end of the second lap, passing Chris Fitzhugh (Han), who got the holeshot. Local Jerry Moore zipped Ryan Fisher (C-A) to get third, and around they went. Moore passed Fitzhugh a few laps later, and the crowd went bonkers a Boise riders were running first and second. Moore lost second place momentarily when he took a quick trip up the bank coming out of the lillIe corner. He was quickly back on the gas, though, and regained the position he had lost. Then, on the next lap, disaster struck as Moore's front wheel went away in the dogleg. Moore may have tried to pivot on one of the many tear-offs laying on the track, but whatever the cause, the effect was frightening. Moore went over the highside with the bike following him down, in the worst crash of the weekend. Moore uffered artery and ligament damage to his left hand, and was toted off to the hospi ta I where surgery has since been performed; the prognosis is good. Reynolds held his lead all the way for the win, and was quickly off his bike after the race, going over to check on Moore. Fitzhugh hung on [or econd, and Fi her wound up third. On the pole for the Expert 20-lap main event, Green at on the front row. along with Yamamoto, Word, Barkman and others. Fay was back in the second row along with the last man to quali[y, Pearson. When the light went green, it wa Barkman zooming his KTM stroker into the first turn ahead o[ Word, Yamamoto and Green. Barkman held 0[[ Word [or a couple of laps, but it was Yamamotocomingon strong. Yamamoto continued to pull away, with only Word staying within striking distance. Fay meanwhile, was righting his way up through the pack after a grim start, compliments of Dan Bennell, Eklund and John Wincewicz. Fay continued to move, though, and by lap 15, was pressuring Green [or third. The two northwest TT specialists put on a tremendous dice, with Fay finally getting the beller of the Honda pilot a couple of laps from the flag. Eklund nipped original leader Barkman for fifth about the time Yamamoto was waving at the man with the checkered flag. lUBAKr .... ""..
