aska-Canada-Northern California-Northern Nevada-Oregon-Washington-Idaho-Ut winner Scott Taggart and two points less than Brain Patton, who was first 250cc B. Grant Gustavson was the first place Senior with 19 points and Barbara Mihovich lost 51 points to win the Women B class, in her first effort in almost two year. The 1984 Sawmill enduro was a B and C Rider Championship event and turned out to be challenging without exhausting the riders in these classes. As in the A and B classes, the better C class arrowchasers were forced to keep time, and there were a lot of tie scores. Senior class pilot Gary Smart turned in the only 19-point C score to beat Frank Andrews (1st 250cc C) and Barry White (1st Open C), who both tied for the Overall Sportsman title at 22 points. The tie was not split as of press time. One point back from the Sportsman C class winners was Four-stroke Crider Craig St. Clair who rode to the head of his class on his Richmond Yamaha TT600, entering in at least a five-way tie for third overall C. Michael Chapman (1st 200cc C) and Ron Carson (1st Vet C) each turned in 26-point tallies and Jacqueline Childress (43 points) claimed the Powder Puff class over Debbie Levy (105) and Jeanine Rendon (127). Minis move mountains at SHRMX By Charlene Casey BRENTWOOD, CA, MAR. 25 Although the Mini racers put on an excellent show today, the Pros provided some first class action. In the Open Pro ranks, Je.rry Brandt picked up a Malcolm Smith ride and led the first moto from start to finish. Danny Boles took a close second, but the going .wasn't as easy the second goaiound. "Pistol" Pete Lange1y holeshot the second heat, followed by Vernon Forsyth and Boles. Brandt, who started in fourth, moved up to second to challenge Lange1y. At the scoreboOth bend, Brandt made his move, an excellent inside pass. Boles followed him right around for second place. Brandt main tained the lead to score a I-I overall win. Craig Christain, the number one northern California rider, led the 250cc Pros at the fi-rst moto start, with Kimo Casey and Mark Hearns on his tail. Casey soon crashed, by sticking his front wheel in the mud, but Christain and Hearn continued around the track. Rich My then took advantage of tbe long, twelve-lap moLO to reel-in Hearns and pass him for second place. Determined to win the second moLO, Hearns came across the gate first. Casey and Christain were breathing down his tailpipe, until Casey went for the lead on lap one, and his front wheel suddenly washed out over a berm. Christain eventually got the lead and ran away, while George Hopper of Mallot's Honda took second from Hearns on the last lap. In the l25cc Pro racing action, Christain and Casey waged a war of their own. In the first mota, Christain took the early lead, but Casey found a way around for the checker. In maLO two, Derrick Luchessi got the holeshot, with 'the Casey/Christain duo hot on his heels. They soon got past, and Casey gassed it to a steady, seven second lead over Christain, which he held to the finish. Danny Boles m.oved up to give Christain a run for his money, and the two really went at it. Coming over the scorebooth jump, they made contact while still in tbe air, and both riders made nice landings to continue the heated battle. The top Mini Novice award went to Robbi Paulson this weekend. Ian Leff finished second, and didn't give Paulson a break for the duration of both motos. Leff hasn't raced since last summer's night races, but be still had the drive to stay on Paulson's rear tire all five laps. Jeff Becker took third overall, the same as last week. Terry Bastard, aboard a CR Honda, led the way in both motos of Mini Expert racing to claim the overall victory. In the competitive Mini Intermediate division, Mall Ramey was the overall winner. Ramey ran a solid third in the first moto, and it looked like a solid fourth in moto two, when on the last lap, last turn, he crashed, letting Dave Bauer and Ronald Caton zip by on the inside. Thanks to the first moto, Ramey maintained first overall. Jesse Britton traveled from Santa Cruz LO compete today, and went home with third overall for his efforts. Jimmy Clay had a fourth place start, and began moving through the pack to claim the first moto win. A poor start in tbe second race dropped Clay to fourth overall. Pete Piantinada, one of the smallest riders at Sand Hill Ranch, rode his first 80cc Intermediate race today. "Peanut" is used to being in front, but found himself midpack, battling with Doug Delay. Delay did get by Piantinada in both matos, but Peanut is already talking about beating him next line. Another newcomer to the Intermediate class today was Gary Stoner. Stoner tried to take his Honda up and over the berm at the scorebooth turn, but found that wasn't the hot line. Results MINI NOV: 1. Rabbi Poulson (Vem); 2. len Leff (Suz); 3. Jeff Becker (Kewl; 4.
