IS The first southern California Hillclimbers Association sponsored hillclimb event of the year met with huge success at DeAnza Cycle Park. A large turnout of riders made today an event to remember. . Two separate hills were used for competition: One hill was much easier than the other for the tire clad bikes and the Minis and Powder Puff classes; while the other hill, called Ripley's Rut, was designated for the Modified and Exhibition classes. Ripley's Rut is a tough 600 foot, brush covered cI i ff faced hill. Well known in the hillclimbing world, the Peterson clan came out in force with Robie taking the Minis, Sandee topping the Powder Puff and Kerry taking his Hi-Point, Tsubaki, Nipondenso, Works Performance, KRW, Richter Privateer-sponsored American Honda and JRB Special mounts to five class wins. Bob Day Jr. on a return visit to competition, topped the 500cc Altered Stock class with Terry Tate winning the 250s. The Tire class competition got underway around 9 a.m., with the Minis and Powder Puffs up first. Robie Peterson set the high mark to beat in the first round with a great ride on his CR60, while andee roosted the same Honda up into second place and first PP. Lisa Lynch and Debbie Kelly climbed LO a second and third on a CRSO. The final competition of the day
