Oswel, Shoemaker hammer Shadow Glen By Tom Griffith VALENCIA, CA, MAR. 25 International Yamaha rider Mike Shoemaker and O'Neall Answer sponsored Tracy Oswell returned for a rematch as American Motocross Emerprises. waged battle on Indian Dunes Cycle Park's Shadow Glen track today. Shoemaker disappeared into the trees first in moto one and sailed to a comfortable wire-to-wire win as the scrappy 125cc and 250cc Pros fought for positions behind him. O'Neal rider Gary Bowman flew his 125cc Suzuki imo first for the 125s with Oswell taking second 250 and Brian Chereshkoff's Honda third in the 250s. With the warming of the noon day sun, the Pros also caught fire and extra revs were found by many of the mid pack riders between motos. Robert Laughlin, aboard his Team Greenl]ammin' USA KX 250, mauled the pack and grabbed the holeshot in moto two. The Honda of Oswell trailed at the end of lap one in a solid second position and Shoemaker was way back. With the 125s starting in a delayed second gate, it was some surprise seeing the Suzuki of Gary Bowman catching the 250s by lap two. By lap five, Laughlin hooked up to the changing track conditions and put the field away; everyone else was racing for second. However, a thrown chain sidelined Laughlin and Oswell inherited the lead. Taking good care of his inheritance, Oswell screwed the throttle tighter and moved on out. Then Shoemaker began closing ground on the leader. By lap nine, the Yamaha rider was on Oswell and powered past for the win and a perfect two-poim score for first overall, with Oswell taking second at the pay window. Going 5-3 for third was Suzuki of Santa Barbara's Andy Segale followed by Chereshkoff getting the fourth-place winnings. Results PEE WEE: 1. Pablo Lara (Yam); 2. Jay Thays (Yam); 3. Everyone has the same stories: The bikes will not st"rt when hot. They catch on fire very easily. The valves stick. The clutches slip. They leak oil. They run incredibly hot. The ignitions fail continuously. They will continue to fail as long as the ignition electronics is inside the engine, particularly such a hot-running one. The bikes are completely unrideable. When mine was new,l had to pay to have my clutch springs replaced and new valve guides/seals installed. Mine has been through SIX ignitions since Labor Day. It has NEVER finished a race. On three occasions, it couldn't make the start It uses/leaks a quart every couple hundred miles or less. One person said he can·t go 100 miles without having to add oil. I can live with the other problems, but I can't live with ignitions that die after 20- 150 miles and strand me in the desert. What has bothered me more than the fact that the bikes are unuseable is that Husky is indifferent to the problem. After ignition #4died. it was opvious that replacing them wasn·t cutting i1. I called Husky and asked them to do something different. Husky has been promising a ··fixit kit'· for months. They claim the delay is due to production startup delays. I didn't care about the other parts in the kit they claim they are waiting for, such as carbo valve guides, clutch parts, and I asked them to expedite me a new-type ignition, even a pre-production one. I didn·t mind if it failed. At least it would be betterthan putting the same failing ones in again and again. Theyclaimed it was impossible. I have worked in international computer field service for t2 years and I know that it is not impossible at all. On many occasions, to resolve customer problems. I have done things similar to what I asked them to do. It was inconvenient for them, and they refused to be inconvenienced by my 53500 doorstop. I spent hundreds of dollars correcting their mistakes an.d hundreds more in wasted gas and entry fees. Didn·t anyone in Sweden start one and ride it before they brought them over? With all of these severe catastrophic problems in the short term. what also concerns me is the long term. How long will their trick oiling system last before it has a problem and destroys my entire engine? I have filed a lawsuit against Husky in my local Small Claims Court. I am alsO taking action through the FTC and the state Attorney General. I encourage other Husky owners todothe same. It's not hard to do; you don't have 10 put up with a bike that cost·half again as much as a Japanese bike and is unrideable. If you call or write me, I will help you. If anyone out there i.s an attorney and would like to help, rd like to initiate a class action suit against Husky. I request thaI all other Husky 4 Stroke owners contact me. Tell me about your bike·s problems to substantiate my claim that the bikes are universally severely defective in several areas and are completely un useable as sold. In return, I will keep you up to date on my actions against Husky. Brian Meyette. 905t McFadden Ave.. Westminster, CA 92683 (7t4) 898-3985.
