"When I was on the starting line, I revved lhe motor and a stream of water squirted out," Dubach explained. "I just hope it will last until lhe end of lhe race." At lhe drop of the gate in was Dubach first wilh Fisher in lhird. Fisher took over second at once as lhe pair quicklY,outran lhe olhers. Wilh a Io-second lead at mid-race, it looked like Dubach would ruin Fisher's perfect day. But with rwo laps left, Dubach began slowing; his now-dry engine overheating rapidly. With a quarter-lap left and the nagger almost in sight, Dubach's RM quit. Dubach was able to push lhe bike over the line in time to salvage third overall. Honda rider Richard Sands feU at lhe start of lhe first Open Pro race, Burns put together a 2-1 score 10 take the rirst-place trophy home, despite we eHorts of many worthy competitors. Suzuki-mounted JeH Bua took the start or motoone with Mike Laquerre (Cag) and Burns in hot pursuit. Quint Beus (Yam) was running a strong rourth and somehow managed to pass everyone by the second lap. Burns moved past Laquerre and Bua putting him in second. Bua was holdingonto Burns, while Laquerre raded a bit, eventually dropping 10 hrth when John Jaworowski (Suz) zapped him with lWO laps lO go. Beus went on lO take the win, with Bums and Bua in tow. Burns holeshot lhe second molO with Laquerre and Bua applying pressure. Betts crashed early in lhe firsllap, pUlling an end lO his excellent chance at the overall win. Jaworowski was sixlh off lhe starl but worked his way 10 third by lap two. Burns continued to lead, while Jaworowski took over second from Laquerre. Bua dispatched Laquerre to fourth with three laps remaining and had no problt-ms holding on to the finish. Bums' 2-1 was first over Jaworowki's 4-1, which barely beat Bua's consistent !-lJ. _ ST Racing's Paul Thede (Suz) took the money in lhe 125cc Pro class with a perfect I-I score.
