Final events were held today Eor several classes that had two divisions. The 80cc Junior 12-16 riders met together for their final event. Gary Delegatta put his Honda ahead of the pack and edged out Rick Kolchowsky, Sean Blanchard, Aaron Lewis and Paul Vlach. Not only did Delegaua win this final'event but he took the overall series having 316 points while closest to him was Aaron Lewis w.i.th 291 points. The Novice classes went successfully. Brian Rogers won today's 80cc Novice event, but it was Tom McGill taking the overall series win. McGill hooked the first-moto win ahead of Rogers and 'Brian Raleigh. In the final event the top riders were shot down. McGill held the top position until he dropped his Kawasaki. SD Racing's Matt Shackleford took over the lead at that point, but disastrously came to a sudden stop when his bike threw a rod. Rogers took advantage of this and took the win over Mark Capon and McGill. McGill was the top rider throughout the series with 309 points, while second went to Brian Beck with 274 and 251 points was chalked up by Raleigh for third. Coming into today's race the top 125cc Juniors were Jim Connolly and Travis Roberson while Randy Fleisher held fifth in points, but he remarkably turned it around and took the series victory. The 125cc Juniors met for their final event, and after a first-turn crash, Tony Magallanes came through with the lead over Chad Smart. Fleisher, from Pro Circuit/Troy Lee Designs, passed Smart to take away second place. While in the lead, Magallanes hit a mean whoop and dropped his Honda, then Fleisher took the lead but ~as passed by Smart. Then Smart regained the lead, but while banking into a sandy turn, Smart dropped his Suzuki and allowed Fleisher to take the win. Dan Brown advanced to second and Smart got underway and took third while Magallanes picked up his Honda and finished in fourth. This race was fantastic Eor Fleisher and it put him ahead in points and won him the Honda. However, for Magallanes this race was a heartbreak because he lost out on the Honda by a mere four points and took second. Dallen McKenney was, yet, another rider who had a good shot at the new bike but only took fifth place today. McKenney trailed Magalanes by one point and Fleisher by Eive which gave McKenney third in the series. Mark Toyama took the l25cc Intermediate final event, and more importantly, the overall series win. Toyama was a top contender from the start when he won the Saddle back opener. Billy "The Kid" Frank was after Toyama but threw the rod on h.is Yamaha and decided to move up to the Pro class with little chance of winning the series. In the final race, Toyama was styling as he took the holeshot. Richie James was in second until he faded back and Sunwest Yamaha's Mark Decker dropped his Yamaha after being in third. "Freaka-wid" Marc Matson held a top position but he too dropped back. Upsetting these riders was the amazing 12-year-old Shaun Kalos who advanced to take second place then Phil Butler and Gary Riekki. Overall for the series i't was Toyama, Matson, Butler and then Kalos. Ken Faught was the man who took the 250cc Novice class with a sizeable points lead, however, today was not a good ride for Faught, because Anthony James was flying and took both motos. Coming on strong since the Carlsbad race was Jeff Montgomery from SD Racing who placed second this time over Reinal DeLaCerda, while Faught was seventh with a 8-7 tally. Points wise itdidn'thurt Faught because he still won with 286 points over James' 260 and Marc Peters' 238. Former BMX buddies Steve West and Denny Davidow were top contenders in the 250cc J un ior class every race, but Stacy Magorian captured the day's victory. West, with a 303 points, captured the overall. Davidow was second with 292 while Magorian was third with 277. Wesley Furrh won today's 250cc Intermediate final but Luc Deley took home the new Honda. Jeff Sills got the jump on the pack in the Einal event but Deley passed him, then Sills hit Deley's back wheel and fell down. Furrh, soon slid past Deley for the lead, but Deley knew that he had the series wrapped up and didn't push himself by trying to regain the lead. It was Furrh, Deley and Dave Moore at the finish. For the series, Deley won with 296 points followed by Furrh, and Don "Looper" Goettling. An Olivier was a winner all the way around as he swept both motos of the 500cc Junior class for the win. Then he too won a new Honda as he chalked up 296 points for the series overall, while Stuart Prior came closest with 261. Third was Mark Mangold with 256. Results 60 THRU B: ,. Horban, Harsha master Corvallis ST By Clay Ught CORVALLIS, OR, FEB. 18 National number 34 Tom McCullough put his Lou Kinish/ Simpson/Out Front Number Plates Yamaha into the winner's circle at the second race of the Oregon Indoor Short Track Series in Corvallis, winning the 250cc Pro main. Junior Robert Horban (Mayfield Ene/Grants Pass Suz) won the 250cc A main as well as nabbing three runner-up spots in events controlled by McCullough and Jeff Harsha (Yam Sports Center/Simpson Yam), winner oE both Open mains. Randy Scott took the Old Timer feature race on a Bultaco. Scott, Delbert Spinney and Jeff Celorie led the Old Timers annual event at the start of the eight-lap main. Spinney overtook Scott and the two swapped it out for a lap, until Scott stormed back to grab the· lead on lap three and was not to be outdone. Scott, a former National plate holder, showed flashes of brilliance as of years past and held 0[[ Spinney, who still has the speed to take second behind Scott and ahead of Celorie. Celorie held a large pack back to bag the final-trophy spot. The Open A main saw Harsha jam his way into turn one ahead of Horban, Novice Marty Zirbel, Junior Steve Kendig and Bob Inge!. Harsha had his hands Eull with Horban, who seemed content with second. Harsha put his Yamaha into an untouchable lead; taking-the win over Horban and Zirbel. The 250cc Pro main event was hands down the most exci ting race of the evening. McCullough sat the pole position, gleaming with confidence, yet still somewhat worried about rivals Harsha and Horban gridded alongside himself. At the snap of the rubber band it was McCullough riding the inside ahead of Horban and Bultaco rider Billy Oliver, who displaced third when Harsha went out with problems. Oliver had third to himself until National number 85 Frand Word III put a Husky into fourth after a last-place start and took third from Oliver at the half. The battle for the lead had the capacity crowd on its feet, Horban was riding the wheels of his RM-based machine in attempt at catching McCullough, who went on to win by mere inches when lapped riders let Horvan gain ground and nearly cost McCullough victory. Word rode like a madman also taking advantage of back lappers to get a close third over Oliver, Fisher and Klum. Results OPEN .PRO: ,. Jeffrey Harsha (Yam); 2. Raben Horban (Suz); 3.
