~ incl ud ing the main evenl. After what could be called a sub-par-Christian performance the previous evening aL £1 Cemro, the STP/Hi Poim/Bellsponsored rider made his first appearance of the evening in evem two. Christian foughL off Rick Miller on the fir t lap and then ran away from the pack to score his first win of the nighl. Steve Lucero, inherited the lead in event three when leader Dubb FelTell dropped out with m chanical ills, and went on to post the win over a hard-charging Bobby chwaru. The crowd favorite and defending National Champion Kelly Moran made his initial appearance in evem four and took an easy win. Before the event, announcer Huffman imroduced one of the riders as "Gentleman" john Sandona. As soon as the evem had ended, Sandona had won a fierce baule with Lance King for second. Huffman stated that "Sandona rode like Charlie Manson." What a difference four laps of peed way can make. Lucero tri umphed again in event six while Christian got the "whole"shot and defeated Gene Woods in evem seven. Moran led wire to wire in evem eight to win over the "Living Legend" Mike Bast, who kept the heat on the diminutive number one the emire four circuits. Moran, looking like the man to beat, came right back in evem nine and finished a distant thjrd behind "Sudden" Sam Ermolenko and john Cook. Chri tian clo ed out the heats by warding off andona and Lucero to clo e the preliminaries wiLh a perfect score. The fir t Scratch main piued Christian against john Cook, Dennis igalos and Lucero. Cookie was first out of the gate with ChrisLian in close and very determined pursuil. Sigala, the top rider in the British League in 1983, bit the dust and became a spectator for the most intense race of the evening. Cook occupied the middle groove with Christian twisting on the throule down on the pole. I t was a wild battle all four laps with Christian trying everything he knew to get by and thus driving the crowd insane. At the checkers iL was Cook looking over his shoulder directly imo Christian's eyes as Lhey crossed the line. In the second semi Schwartz came up big to cop the win while Poole-bound Ermolenko won a knock-down dragout battle with Moran to earn his tickeL to the main. Schwartz drew the pole for the main with Christian coming from two, Cook in three and Ermolenko in four. They came out with Schwartz bullying hjs way into the lead ahead of Christian and Cook. Christian dropped to the inside on the back chute and pulled alongside Schwaru as they emered turn three. The two "American Superstars" came out of turn four side by side and drag raced down the from chute wiLh Christian forging ahead. While Christian was taking chwartz, Ermolenko started to challenge Cook and he eventually got by for third SpOl. After geuing the job done on Cook, Ermolenko set his sights on Schwartz. After ChrisLian had taken the win and the checkered, Ermolenko and Schwartz Clashed acros the line side by side with Ermolenko capturing second by inches. Denny Scopellite (Hobie/KROQ/ jones Goggles/SBE Wes) led every lap of every race he was in from the 20-yard line, including the main on the Handicap side of the program. The big news of the night was Mike Mazzacane riding the all new Maely motor to a second-place finish in the main behind Scopellite's third perfect ride of the evening. Brad Oxley claimed third followed by Buddy Robinson, Woods and Leni Faas. Congratulations To . Kawasaki's Goat Breker, Golden State Series 500cc Champion. The Lubrication Leader.
