Russell roared his Al Russell Sports Centre-sponsored Yamaha to convincing wins in both tbe Mini and 125cc B Main events with quick starts and smooth lines around theone-sixth-mileoval. Papa Al (the guy who owns the shop) just looked on and smiled like he knew who was going to win all along. In another exciting main, OMC PR man Larry Cowles (Yam) finally put it to his usual nemesis Terry Anderson (Suz) to wind up a winner in the 250cc Intermediate fray. Anderson ·gotthe holeshot with Cowles about fourth going into the first tum. Cowles was in second coming out of the turn, however, and a lap later got under Anderson, who ate the haybales trying to hold off the determined Yamaha pilot. Cowles then cruised home to a popular win and the biggest trophy he's seen this season. Ander¥>n didn't go home emptyhanded though. He put his customframed Honda 500 under Del Macy with a spectacular toe-dragging slide to grab the lead (and eventually the win) in the Open Intermediate Main. Terry's a man who's not accustomed to'going home without at least one trophy. In the Expert ranks. Coeur D' Alene resident Arney Wick (Hon) grabbed a lead of several bikelengths on the third restart of the 250cc Expert main and never looked back. Arney's so smooth and consistent that, if he's out in front, the rest of the boys can just forget it. Closest of the locals was John Colton (Kaw) who had second place nailed down until his justslightly-heavy throttle hand let Ricky Henson (Yam) nip him coming out of the final comer. Henson ran his Fred Johnston Ya- maha 600 to third in the Open Expert race behind an inspired Rodney Reynolds (Hon) and start-ta-finish leader: winner Jerry Moore (Hon). Moore's famous wheelie w/peace sign at the checkered flag went over real big with the overflow crowd. A couple of other racers deserve recognition for their efforts on this chill February evening. Steve Henry (KTM) stood in for previous 250cc Expert winner Ron Dillon, who wa~ away at a Nevada desert race. Steve captured the gold in the hotly contested 250cc B Main aboard his Dillon Cycle-sponsored Austrian waterpumper. And, though he didn't trophy this time, little James Cyr rode his heart out in the Mini B battle only to get bumped out of contention just when he was moving hard on the second-place man. It was one of those things which was not James's fault and, as he's certainly learning... that's racing! Results PEE WEE: 1. Devid Kliser(Y.m); 2. Casey Anderson (Varni; 3. Mel.... Cool< (y.ml.
