Falter tops J25cc Pros in Barona Inaugural By Rod Eschenburg SAN DIEGO, CA, FEB. 5 1983 California Mini Motorcycle Club's Mini Champ Cory Falter made hi l25cc debut a winning one as he upset a fine Open Pro field with a 1-2 effort over veterans Kenny Dunlap and Ray Tetherton. Poway uzuki-moumed Falter had holeshots in both moLOS and looked like he had been riding the full-sized scooters all his life. However, in his regular Imermediate 125cc classes he was unable LO score a win as Team Green rider Frankie Brundage Lie-broke him in the sLOck I 25cc division in a great come-from-behind ride in the second mota. Brundage, who had just returned from the Sand Hills CMC Golden tate Series races on Saturday, looked a lillie sluggish in the first round of both the Open Pro and Intermediate classes, but was really cooking in the second rounds of both classes, especially in the stock Imermediates. It was Smorgesborg in the Expert l25cc classes as Poway Suzuki rider Ray Tetnerton edged JT Yamaha-mounted Keith Craig for the SLOck class win, only LO be tiebroke by Craig for the Modified honors in some very fine racing. Modified Intermediate honors went to Suzuki-mounted Mike Allen who ran a smooth 2-2 race for a career first 125cc viCLOry. Roundingoutthe 125ccclass action was the double Novice wins by Gary Prall (Cagiva), another rider moving up from the Minis. The top Mini racing Sunday occurred in the Imermediate classes where Kawasaki-mounted Steve Furuya and Poway Suzuki pilot Anthony Gorin staged a two-maLO barn burner in the Stock class. Although Furuya took both races, it was in doubt all the way, with Gorin able LO close LO a side-by-side race, only to lose it in the loose-stuff. The Modified Intermediates saw Cycle World Kawasaki rider Don Burke parley a second maLO holeshOl eHort imo an overall win over Furuya as, this time, it was Gorin's turn to out-race Furuya in another side-byside blast.
