According to Bel-Ray, Team Green riders will soon be receiving further information from Gill Martin, Bel-Ray's technical services and race coordinator. Continental Tires will be conducting a national "sport-tour" sweepstakes open to U.S. riders. The top prize will be an expense-paid motorcycle tour of Germany and a visit to the . annual motorcycle exposition in Cologne. Second prize will be an expense-paid trip to the annual ProAm Superbike race at Daytona late this fall, and the third prize will be 50 sets of Continental Super Twins highperformance tires. We like the new version better. 2 Kevin Hines and the new watercooled Husqvarna WR400 shared their first AMA National Enduro win with a one-point victory in the Quicksilver National Enduro, run February 19at New Idria, California. Hines bested Mike Melton, alsoon a WR400, 14-15, for the overall win in theSalinas Ramblers event. Northern California star Dave Bertram put his Team Husky WR500 i'nJo third overall with a score of 16. Terry Cunningham, in his first major event since he broke his leg in the IS DE, turned in a fine performance for third a water-cooled Husky 250 with a score of 17. Can-Am's John Martin rounded out the top five with a score of 19. Top A rider honors went to Grant Palenske, who was Hondamounted, while Yamaha rider Brett Cary took the overall B victory. Ever aspire to the international glamour of Formula One automobile racing, hob-nobbing with the international jet set before slipping into a 200 mph rocketship for a leisurely drive through the streets of Monte Carlo? The Renault Elf Winfield 'driving school headquartered at the circuit Paul Ricard, is having several schools for Americans, and two schools just for Americans with motorcycle racing experience. The multi-day schools cost about $2500 including airfare, and one will be held right around the French GP, June '7-16, and another around the time of the 24-hour Bol d'Orendurance race, September 13-26. The best student from each school will be invited back for a three-day advanced school free of charge, and a guaranteed entry in the semi finals of the Pilote Elf Competition, where a season of sponsored racing in France will go to the winner. It was announced previou.sly that former World Champ Marco Lucchinelli and Battle of the Twins Champ Jimmy Adamo would be riding the 500cc four-cylinder machines in the paytona 200. The latest rider on the team is Roberto Pietri, who will ride the GP bike in the 200, and then team with Adamo on Cagiva/Ducati 900SS machines for the Superbike series. However, it appears that Pietri is keeping the Honda Superbike he rode last year and subsequently purchased, in reserve. American speedway star Dennis Sigalos, racing in Australia, captured the Johnny Hoskins Trophy in a race at Newcastle late in January. Sigalos bested Aussie Gary Guglielmi and Britain's Peter COllins in the final. Fellow American Bobby Schwartz also contested the event, but went out early in the evening with engine failure. Bel-Ray is ioining forces with Ka· Tuner Larry Worrell has left Honda where he was involved in building engines for their race teams. Worrell will prepare Wes Cooley's eq ui pment for the '84 road race season. Wayne Rainey, the 1983 Superbike Championship Series titlist who will be contesting the 250cc World Road Race Championship this season for three-time 500cc World Champion Kenny Roberts' newly formed Marlboro/Roberts Racing Team, was still awaiting delivery of his Yamaha TZ250L on Friday, February 17. Rainey will be making his debut ride for the team in the March 10 International Formula Two race at Daytona International Speedway. "I hope we getthe bike soon," said Rainey. "I don't want to have to rush to get ready and miss any of the practice days because I want to get in as much track time as I can. I've only raced a 250 once and that was at Loudon when I won the Novice final in 1981_ After that, I only raced Superbike rounds. I'm looking forward to riding the GPs because there is plenty of competition. I feel if I can be consistent and finish in the top four that I have a shot at the title. You don't have to win races to win the title. Once I leave for South Africa after Daytona I won't be back for five months. Kenny will be coming over to some of the events to see how things are running and I hope to have my dad at some also." Rainey will be joined by Englishman Alan Carter with the team based in Amsterdam near the racing headquarters of Yamaha. Have you got those can't-go-toDaytona blues? Cheer up. The Daytona 200, Superbike final and Daytona Supercross will be on television . The only catch is you have to be on a cable system which has the USA Network. The first airing will be at midnight (Eastern) on March 13 with a second showing scheduled for 8 p.m. on March 21. Jay Springsteen in the Daytona Superbike race? Harley-Davidson had plans for Springsteen to ride an XR 1000, but shelved them according to Harley's Clyde Denzer. "Having Jay ride in the Superbike race would have been interesting," said Denzer. "Unfortunately, the bike hasn't been approved for racing with a large gas tank by the AMA. We would have had to make two gas stops with the approved tank and that takes away any competitive edge:' Rodney Barr (Kaw) topped the 125cc Pro class in the February 19 final round of the Florida Winter-AMA MX Series at Action Park in Jacksonville. Billy Liles (Kaw) blasted the 250cc ranks while Mark Murphy (Yam) was the Open class winner. Series titles went t,o Karl Jordan (Yam) in (he 125cc division while John Reinholt (Hon) was the 250cc titlist. Murphy collected the Open class crown. Jack Carlton, a spokesman for the Bees Motorcycle Club in Utah, said that the annual Widowmaker Hillclimb has been postponed from its traditional April date. The new date is May 20, and Carlton said the reason for the delay is to allow 'time to prepare the hill after the snow - very heavy this year melts off. The show will be broadcast on ' Saturday afternoons by ABC's Reno affiliate, KOLa Channel 8. The company will provide a $50,000 point fund while Wrangler will provide an additional $50,000 to supplement purses at the 10 outdoor Nationals via their Wrangler Winner's Circle program. The series will be called the Bel-Ray Grand National Championship MX Series. Points earned in three Triple Crown Supercross events plus the 10 Nationals will be combined to determine the BelRay Grand National Champion. The Camel Pro Series season will now end at the October 14 Springfield (Illinois) Mile National due to the cancellation of the Pontiac TT National. Prior to the 19.54 season, the winner of the Springfield Mile was named the AMA Grand National
