A couple of ride,. bettie it out et Indien Dunes through e sweeping right hand tum. tried everything he knew to get around but had to sellie for the second with Mark Sheets coming from sixth to claim the third. In division two it was quite a match-up between Bruce Beatty and SCOll Reed. Reed got orr on top and held it for two laps before Beally took over. On the fifth lap, the two were so close it looked like a dead heat as they crossed the finish line. ~ Beally dialed it on a little bit more and was able to put some daylight between him and Reed, and he had to be very thankful when the checkered came out. Lon Smith had locked into third early on hoping for the mistake that never came. On the TT, Smith was right on target as he followed King for one lap before he took over the lead and showed the boys the way home. Joe Pape and Fedencio Rodriquez rounded out the field. Jerr Hagge turned in an outstanding performance as he captured the division two win and it was all Joe Guth and Beally could do to keep him in sight. The N.S.O.T.H.G. continues to have a strong field of riders, but it was Mike Boal's night as he won both the "IT and the haH mile, topping Don Meine.r and Jim Chapman on the "IT and Ken Barrow and Meiner on the haH mile. Another legal vet, Al Maglieuo gave the youngsters a lesson on haHmile riding as he held school in the 250cc Novice class. Brad Roberts led it for two before the master took over and showed them how it is done. Mall Stoutenberg took over the second haH way through, so Roberts had to sellie for third when the checkered fell. Frank Macias topped SCOll Reed and Stoutenberg to take the 250cc NoviceTT. Rich Sweeney proved that his move to the Amateur/Expert ranks was the right one as he went home a double winner. Bob Galbler was the man who followed him home in both. Calvin Rayborn picked up the third on the haH mile to add to his Open Expert TT win. Results TT 22 PEE WEE: 1. Dustin SIuIlllti (SuII; 2. Ricky Andres (Suz); 3. J.J. Wooten (Vaml. MINI: 1. Lopez lands win at Saddleback CRCMX By Lee Taylor ORANGE, CA, JAN. 22 A boisterous pack of Open Beginners attacked Saddleback Park in a last ditch attempt to qualify for Anaheim Stadium. Paul Lopez launched his Yamaha off the s!iU'ting line 3I!d str3!ght into_ the winner's circle. Cinching a pair of aces for the day. His competition throughout the day were David Dicorato, also Yamaha mounted and Suzuki racer Michael Sheldon. Sheldon finished the day with a smooth 3-2 ride for second place honors and Dicoralo's 2-4 ride brought him third overall. Yamaha ace, Vince McMahon, riding in Malcolm Smith's colors, picked off back-to-back wins when twentvthree 250cc Pros tore up the turf; one of the hOllest ballies of the day. First-moto action saw rookie Glen Wells jump into third; fighting to hold off Peter Murray and Andrew Jefferson. Jefferson's Husqvarna put a flock of Hondas to shame. Jefferson unsettled Wells in third and ran strong to the end. Jefferson found Murray on his tail as Wells seuled into fifth and held on until the end of the moto. McMahon was clearly in control despite Don Turk of Holiday Honda riding shotgun. When the finish line came into sight McMahon, Turk and Jef[erson rounded out the top three with Murray and Wells finishing fourth and fifth respectively. After the machines roared to life for their final round, McMahon once more took charge and held Murray to second right down to the end. Murray took home second-place loot for the day, Jefferson held firm for thirdplace honors. Tim Krogh's 6-6 ride gave him fourth overall and Turke rounded out the top five with a 2-10 finish. For ·Wells, it was a taste of defeat when he overshot a berm and out of the runing with injuries. Patrick Jones and his red hot Honda rode to victory for the California Racing Club's Vets Juniors taking down an impressive pair of aces and beating Honda racers Walter Hard and Robert Cooke. A see-saw battle shaped up between Cooke and Hard that hounded them throughout the day. In their first round, Cooke rode shotgun; forcing Hard to third. The se· cond time around it was Hard breathing down Jones' jersey; leaving Cooke to hold of[ a raging pack. By ballle's end, the glory went to Jones. Hard picked off second-place gold and rounding out the winning trio was Cooke. • Results 60: 1. Justin Rich (Kawl; 2. David Ochoa (Kaw); 3. Eric _ (Kaw). INT: 1. Sean Thornton (Kaw); 2.
