Jimmy Button, known as "Monkey", set
back the competition in a close points contest for the 60 and 80cc Intermediate 9-11
titles in the Continental Motorsports Club's

the 60cc cia s. An even closer battle
exi ted in the 80cc Intermediate 9-11
clas a both Button and Jimmy Clay
were tied with 79 points. Bulton
called the hots in the 60cc lass with
two maLO wins over Clower. Clay
and Button plit maLO wins in the
80cc Intermediate 9-1 I contest, with
Bulton becoming the overall victor as
his final-maLO win decided the outcome.
Bulton and Clowers are hard-fighting rivals yet both are campaigning
for American Honda aboard CR60
bikes. "Monkey" jumped ahead of the
pack LO take the lead in the first maLO
of 60cc racing. Clowers, at a distance,
was running in second place. The
top rider for Kawasaki was Jes
James, known as "The Bandil," who
pulled through with a third. "Mighty
Mouse" Joel Tokarsky hooked fourth
place while Tony Sulek tagged fifth,
both aboard green machines.
It was nothing short of Bulton all
the way in the final moto of the 60c
class. Clowers came closest but not
close enough to consider passing the
leader. Mike Becema was apparently
being lapped and fell on the triple
jumps right .in front of Clowers.
"Too Small" just barely avoided Becerna and continued in se ond. James
was running in third on his Kawaaki that had a lowered seat ju t to
allow the retired Pee Wee class rider
to ride. Pressuring James was Don
Piatanida, who oon took away third
place. James wa pushed back to
fourth ju t ahead of Tokarsky.
Jimmy ButLOn swept the 60cc class
with twO firsts. Till overall win gave
him a LOtal of II point. Clowers is
still a threat LO Bulton though he
trails with 114 points after a second·
place Cirri h. James had a 3-4 tally
which earned him third. Fourth went
to Tokarsky, who chalked up a 4-5
tally, and won his first trophy ever in
a Golden tateevem. Piantanida rounded out the LOp five with an inconsistent 10-3 tally.
Bulton faced Clowers once again
in the 80cc Intermediate 9-11 class,
though Jimmy Clay was Bulton'
main rival as they were tied pointswise. Taking the lead in the first
moLO was ButLOn, Steven Kotajarvi
and Clay. Then Bulton dropped hi
Honda on a corner after a big jump.
Kotajarvi took his Kawasaki to the
lead over Clay and Bulton who remounted in third. On a very rough
