Longtime 'Dome champion Steve Eklund, winner of the TT in Texas last time, will try and break the longstanding jinx 9f doing it all under the roof one year, and then not doing it the next. This should be his "off" year but most have learned a long time ago to not bet against the only double 'Dome winner anytime he is back under the "eighth wonder of the world." All the new first-time rookies will be out with new bikes, new racing leathers and new numbers. 1983 produced a pretty good crop and only Chandler chose to advance in midyear under the new system. Washington's Randy Green was the only rookie to make either final a year ago, finishing a strong third in the shon track. The TT had no firstyear hopefuls. Let's hope thaI the 1984 season does not follow the same pattern that haunted the two '83 Astrodome winners. Neither rider came close to winning another National final the rest of the season.
