TEN YEARS KIS. WELCOMES THE 1984 AGO Brad Lackey signed with Husqvarna to ride the 500cc World Motocross Championship Series. Earlier, Kawasaki had announced that they were scaling down their motocross effort to only one rider. Jimmy Weinert, but it was believed that Lackey was looking for a manufacturer with a serious GP commitment. l~ I(INGDOME~ SEATTLE Number One was number one in the first D-37 desert race of J 974, hosted by the Desert Vikings M.e. Huskymounted MilCh Mayes won overall, followed by Suzuki rider Bob Rom· ine and Mayes' Husky teammate, A.C. Bakken. In each class, riders had to qualify for a main event, with the winner of the main taking home the biggest chunk of change. Bruce McDougal (Hon) took the l25cc Pro main, defeating Penton pilot Eddie Cole. Maico master Rex Slalen had the best performance of the evening, winning the 250cc Pro main over Morris Malone (Yam) and McDougal, then placing second in the Open wars behind Billy Payne (Mai). Ron Kole led Slartto finish to win the 360cc Expert class of an indoor short track at anta Rosa, California. Jerry Kole finished second with Fenn Per· viu third. In the 125cc Expert class of a CRC motocross at Saddleback Park, Suzuki pilot Pal Hubbs rode to victory, besting Honda rider Mike Bell and the Penton of John Bardell. The National Minicycle Association attempted to hold their World Mini Grand Prix, and they drew 829 entries. The event also drew enough rain and snow to inundate Indian Dunes, and the event was eventually postponed three months after the first day was run. In the abbreviated running, Gregg Toyama, SCOll Burnworth, Brian Myerscough and Kevin Sleele were among those credited with class wins.
