~ 00 O"l (Above) Jeff W.rd e••ily domin.ted the 125ee Pro el•••. (Below) In the 260ee el.... h.lf of Te.m T.mm. Bri.n Myerscough .nd A.J. Whiting. were caught in this four-bike pile up .t the stert of the second moto. Rick Ry.n put in two outstending ride. in the 126ee el. . . .nd finished both moto. in second for second overell. Honda's johnny O'Mara and David Bailey were found a few positions behind the leaders. Ward held the throttle wide open and reeled in Burnworth by the second lap. Then Burnworth fell prey to Ward a few turns later. But Burnworth didn't give up easily - he'repassed Ward instantly but'lost it again in the next tum. Back in fourth, Liles felt O'Mara's pressure and succumbed 10 the Honda pilot. As Ward pulled away, Barnett started to nag Burn· worth for second. It took Barnett, who hasn't been up to the usual Barnett speed, about five laps before he could sneak around his teammate. Near the end of the molO, O'Mara started to slow and eventually pulled off the track with a collapsed rear wheel. From then on, positions stayed the same: Ward, Barnett, Burnworth, Bailey and Alan King. It was lucky for Ward that the race ended when it did, or he could have been on the DNF list. His rear w.heel, like O'Mara's, was near the point of destruction. More than half his spokes were broken, along with the brake shoes. "I didn't notice the rear wheel falling apart until the end of the race, but I thought I was getting a flat," said Ward. "I also had problems with my rear brakes after Brian (Myerscough) and [tangled early in the race. His bike hit my rear wheel, and that broke the brake shoes." Barnett had control of the lead at the start of the second moto, with Ward hot on his tracks, Burnworth followed in third ahead of O'Mara. Up front, a dogfight developed between Barnett and Ward. At times Barnett would gain a few seconds on Ward, but the Kawasaki teamster always made up the difference. On the fifth lap, Barnett went high in a left turn while Ward went low. Ward stuffed Barnett and took over the lead. Barnett couldn't keep up with . Ward's blistering pace and feU bad< a few seconds. O'Mara, who cruised in a distant third for most of the molO after passing Burnworth, decided 10 get on the gas-on the last lap. O'Mara managed 10 reel in the Suzuki ace, pass him and set after Ward. Amazing· Iy, only a few turns later, he had caught Ward and made his move in the last turn. On a very steep, off· camber turn, 0' Mara went inside and zapped Ward for the win. Ward said he didn't fight too hard because he didn't want 10 crash and give the overall 10 Barnett, who finished third ahead of Burnworth and Suzuki· mounted jim Tarantino. "I knew O'Mara would try and make a move in the last turn, so when he did, I didn't want to run in to him so I went wide while he went inside. If I had' crashed, Barney (Barnett) would have taken the overall, and since O'Mara didn't finish the first molO, I didn't have anything to lose taking second." 600ee Pro Kawasaki's Goat Breker dominated the 500cc Pro class with amazing speed. At one point in the first molO, Breker was 18 places behind the leader, Phil Larson. Larson slOled the hole· shot and led most of the moto until Breker ruined it for him. By the final lap, Breker had picked off 17 riders to challenge Larson. With a half of a lap left, Breker slipped past Larson, but the climax of the race took place on the last turn when Larson made a last-ditch effort to pass Breker by holding the throttle open, but his plan backfired when he collided with Breker. In result, Larson went over th bars and lost three Spots. "I kind of got mad at Larson's move," said Breker after the first molO. "He held the throttle wide open and ran into me. If I wasn't there, he would have missed the turn and gone straight down the hill." Yamaha rider Pete Snorteland had a strong ride and finished second ahead of john Finkel· dey, now riding a Honda, who had to overcome a flat front tire. Yamaha·mounted jim Ellis holeshot the second moto with Breker glued to his rear fender. In third was Yamaha·mounted Tim Locey. Breker didn't waste much time taking over the lead. Breker said before the race all he wanted to do was take an earl y lead and get away from everyone. His plan worked 10 a T as he went on 10 take the win and overall ahead of Locey, Honda-armed Eric Eaton, Larson, Snorteland and Finkeldey. ''I'm really happy for Kawasaki," said Breker after the races. "They've worked really hard lately and they deserved the win." • Results MINI EX: 1. Eddia Hicks(Yam) 1·1; 2. Scan Brown (Honl 2-2; 3.
