Yamahamounted Kenny Keylon challenged Reinholt's domination of the 250 and 500cc classes with 12 impressive opening mota wins in bom classes, but second mota crashes took Keylon out of contention. I think it was wrong." New York's Tom Rice, who again stormed to the 125cc win and second in the 250cc class, said, "They made me work harder today. If the bike wasn't working so well, I couldn't have hung on. My dad and Carl Sims were here this weekend and helped a lot. " The 300 riders who tested their bikes and bodies on Alan Ashlock's rugged track found out what the Warm-up Series is all about. With Ronnie Tichenor out of action with sinus problems, Kenneth Elwood took over the top spot in the class point race, with Bobby Mann scoring second overall and taking over second in the standings. Ed Hieftje, the Michigan IOOcc MX Champion, and Canada's Martin Horik vaulted past Louisiana's Eddie Andry in the 125cc B points race. Horik, the class winner, and Jeff Fisher swapped mota wins. Pierre Volicoeur, who hails from Montreal, maintained the only perfect Amateur division record with another l25cc C class mota sweep, passing Florida's Troy Coker with ani y a lap to go to win the (inal mO«l. G len Hoar, the 250cc B class points leader, was bumped from the class by AMA officials. "They said I was going too (ast to race in me B division, so I had to move up to A," said Hoar. Tim Randich watched the 500cc B class disappear while he waited for another rider to be freed from his rear wheel. Randich then romped through the pack for a come-from-behind first mota win and then went flag to flag in mota two forthe overall. "I tried to be smooth and fast, mostly fast," said Randich. Ed Hieftje moved into the series points lead with' a pair of seconds. R.C.
